Landis+Gyr E450 smart meter integration

Has anyone integrated the Landis Gyr E450 smart meter in Home Assistant?
Model G3-PLC or PLC:G3-OFDM
Can it be integrated?

I’m not sure what model I have exactly but as long as there’s a P1 port, I think you can read the data.

What do you mean with P1 port… the optical or the cable port at the front (RJ12)?
I think you need at least some hardware to convert e.g. the optical signals or the MBus signals via RJ12!

This is in German but maybe it gives an idea… A version via Arduino and one via Python code

You need this P1-monitor – ZTATZ or this https://www.zuidwijk.com/product/slimmelezer-plus/ and then you can use this: P1 Monitor - Home Assistant

Did you have any success?

Seems like there are multiple options:

Thanks this looks really intresting.
Unfortunately, the page of slimmeLezer+ stats “Doesn’t work on a mbus port” which all new versions of E450 have!?
Does anyone have one of the two options in a “production ready” state.

Hello, I have the same device. What did you end up doing? I still don’t know what this p1 or m-bus port is

I have the G3-PLC model.
It does not have a P1 port i can plug into, but it has a infrared port on the front, labeled DLMS IDIS 2DLM

Does anyone know if there is a reader for that port ?

I have a 450 g3plc with a wired mbus RJ socket.
My electricity company says the only interface available is the mbus, but dont explain much more.

I’m new to HA, my understanding would be that an mbus/rj to zigbee adapter would be needed?

We used to have one of these and the IR reader that comes with Open Energy Monitor ( or is an option, can’t remember) works well. Open Energy Monitor can then be integrated in to Home Assistant easily.

Which product on Open Energy Monitor ?

There must be modbus to wifi modules, something like a shelly, but I’ve not yet found it :frowning:

There is no plug in module. You would use an EMONTX, plus the wifi module then either a clamp or the IR sensor - which sticks on to the meter.

Did you find a solution for getting this in HA?

It seems to me that this solution is outdated and way too complicated nowadays.

Why not simply use HomeWizard P1 Meter for example? It’s just 10€ and has an integration for Home Assistant. It should work with every Landis+Gyr E450 with P1 port.

Does anyone have experiences with this setup?
I’ll order a P1 Meter and try.

The P1 port is not always enabled or available, which is why you have to use other solutions.

I’ll order a P1 Meter and try.

Quite a brave choice, given that the P1 compatibility list shows the Landis+Gyr E450 as only sometimes or not compatible. However, if it does work, please let me know, because my local electricity company installed a E450 at our house today, and I would love to find an HA integration for it. I couldn’t find a P1 port on mine, but text on it does claim MBus, so maybe …

My P1 Meter is here already and it works!

Our power grid operator NetzBurgenland even lists the P1 Meter on it’s website as compatible with the L+G E450:

Only thing I had to do is ask them to activate the P1/RJ12 port (they have a form for that). Next day it was activated and I got an encryption key.

Now I could integrate it into HA easily with the HomeWizard integration.

Hi there
did you need an external USB Adapter to power it?
I have the Landis+Gyr E450 S4 G3.

There is a documentation from our Supplier how to get Data from it. But the supportet cabels are always listed like this:
M-Bus Slave Adapter USB-RJ12 - But thats in combination with a raspy.
I need to check if my Meter has a P1 aswell or is that the same?

Sorry for the late reply!
Yes, I need an external USB power adapter for the P1 Meter, we’ve installed an outlet close to it.
M-Bus, RJ12 and P1 port are the same.
