I have a weird issue where one group of lights keeps randomly getting turned on throughout the day. It’s the worst at night, so I created an automation to automatically turn them back off, so we can sleep.
I even disabled my automation, and it kept happening. I swapped the button, lights, etc.
It’s been happening for 6 months now, but I noticed the latest Home Assistant is finally giving me some better debugging:
Someone else had this issue as well, but the opposite:
His lights turned off whereas mine are turning on. Considering these are in the bedroom, I’d much rather have that issue.
One person noted it was Alexa. We have both Alexa and Google Home, so it could be either. I wish it was more specific about what exactly caused the event, but that gives me something to look into!
I also deleted the “Modes” thing in Alexa and any other automations it created. I don’t like it trying to randomly determine if someone was here or not.
I do everything in Home Assistant, so I’m not sure when or how this got turned on. Alexa hears random things all the time.
Seems like it might be good to replace it with my Home Assistant Voice units. I bought a bunch last year and wasn’t pleased, but they’ll never have this kinda issue.
I definitely agree with this. I dumped my alexas for esp devices.
The problem you experienced however is not an alexa problem. That said, Nabu cloud voice provider is very good. If you want completely local Speech-to-phrase STT provider is less mistake prone but also has fewer commands. You can add custom phrases so ultimately it is my preference.
