Loratap 6 Button Remote

Hi Guys,

I currently use the Loratap 6 button remote in my kitchen, for setting various scenes on the various lights etc. It’s a great little unit and works well… when it works! I’m constantly having to remove the battery for around 10 seconds in order to re-start it where it reconnects to the Zigbee network and works exactly as it should. After two or three days, it then loses its connection and I have to go through the same routine of battery removal. It is not powering off, as the yellow LED lights up whenever I press a button, but there is not response from ZHA when I check out the device.

This is the remote. Each button has three functions.

This is some tech’ detail from the device integration within HA.

If anybody can suggest anything then I’d be most grateful your input.

Thank you in advance.

BR,

Mike.

The answer is almost certainly “add more zigbee routers”.

Read this, and pay special attention to the Network Optimization section. Read this too.

How many zigbee routers do you have in your house, and how far away is this remote from the coordinator?

I use the Loratap 4 gang and 6 gang buttons with ZHA and don’t have any issues. Most of them have Zigbee smart outlets in the same room as them to act as routers, and the ones that don’t are near the main coordinator.

+1 for looking at your Zigbee network overall. Personally, I was surprised when I realized how slow (30 minute firmware updates!) and how short distance Zigbee is. I use Lutron for my main light switches, but most rooms have a closet or nearby secondary light switch, so long term I plan to replace those with Zigbee switches to reduce my dependency on smart outlets.

Thank you for taking the time to respond, and for the two links - some very comprehensive reading there! :+1: (Currently in the office, so that will have to wait until later tonight)

To answer your question I just have one Zigbee router connected to R/Pi 4 via a USB extender lead. The adapter is a Smlight SLZB-07 with a high gain, omni-directional antenna fitted. This is pretty much centrally located within my house (it seems far more reliable than the ConBee II dongle I first used). The Loratap remote is about 2m away with a direct line of sight between the two items.

EDIT: I also use a Philips Hue hub, which is only used for Hue, or Hue compatible lighting. This is also Zigbee, but a sort of proprietary version of it I believe. No issues whatsoever with the Hue network. There is about 2 m separation between the SLZB-07 and the Hue hub

Thanks for the response.

I also have the 4 button Loratap remote in another room and that works flawlessly. I use about 20 Zigbee power outlet sockets around the house, with at least a couple in each room to act as repeaters, in addition to several Aqara battery operated zigbee sensors and single multi-function push buttons (never an issue at all with these) - everything else Zigbee related works very well, and far better than the WiFi based set up I originally had.

Given the short distance and the fact you have 20 other zigbee routers in the house, then it’s definitely not a range issue.

Only remaining possibility is interference from wifi (which is explained in the first doc). Either that, or it’s just a crappy device which likes to go to sleep and doesn’t react to the first button press.

Edit: Or low battery.
