Motorola Camera's

Hi Roel, sorry if I missed it, but what do you get when you look at the following URLs for your cameras?

http://<IP_ADDRESS>/?action=command&command=get_version
http://<IP_ADDRESS>/?action=command&command=get_model

get_version: 03.10.32
get_model: 1854

Hi there everyone!
Iā€™ve been reading this thread with interest and in appreciation of all the effort that has gone on thus far. When looking at the archives, thereā€™s an ā€œautowriter packageā€. Does anyone know for certain what this is for? I downloaded and looked at it and it contains a windows executable that looks like it is a USB writer for the NAND flash in the camera (see image below).

Has anyone got any experience with this? Anyone willing to try flashing over USB from the tar.gz files for a model 1854? Not as elegant as an OTA downgrade or as simple as uploading to the hidden FW upgrade page ā€¦butā€¦ needs must perhaps!!

I guess this will still require a DNS mod at the gateway to prevent further upgrades.

Thoughts? Comments? Advice?

Unfortunately I am not on windows so canā€™t help. I also think you need to encrypt the file. not sure though.

If you are capable of creating your own firmware, you might also be capable of removing the auto updater

Iā€™m just gonna leave this hereā€¦

Upload .sig first, then .tar.gz

Thank you all for helping me figure it out!

You can also use OpenDNS if you can configure the DNS within your modem/router.

Yes, this works for me!

Iā€™ve been following this thread since I started it and although Iā€™m yet to ā€œdowngradeā€, I just wanted to say a massive thanks to you guys, as you seem to have a found the solution to our problem.

The power of the consumer prevails.

Likewise! I found v03.10.21 was the latest firmware that still allowed streaming for the 1854 model.

https://ota.hubble.in/ota1/1854_patch/1854-03.10.21.tar.gz

Then I added a DNS record in my local DNS servers pointing ota.hubble.in at 127.0.0.1 - that should prevent the upgrades.

perfect. back up and running the way i want - the way i was running for ~2 years until Motorola decided to overreach in and cripple my setupā€¦ in a shameless bid to try flog me a subscription. shame, shame, shame on Motorola.

im now running 1854-03.10.21 ā€¦ streaming to home assistant, the parent unitā€¦ and hubble app is still working (for now) but I guess this will be at Motorolaā€™s discretion and they can no longer be trusted, so i wont hold my breath there.

i have Pi Holed ota.hubble.in and that seems to prevent the auto-update. not happy having to PiHole my network - while i like PiHole, it introduces a single point of failure for DNSā€¦ unless i want to admin multiple piholes just to stop Motorola from overreach.

Sorry, not really a network expert. Can someone explain me how I can block ota.hubble.in within my Asus RT-AC3200 router? Thx in advance!

Youā€™ll need to run your own DNS. If you are running hassio, there is a module for pihole that you can run and then set it as your networks primary DNS in your router settings. Once youā€™ve got it set there, you can blacklist the domain

I have successfully blocked the firmware update and have a great stream! Thank you! One problem I have is the Hubble app doesnā€™t stream the video anymore. Any idea why? I have the mbp855 with Downgraded firmware to 03.10.11.

The Hubble app and website wonā€™t work anymore now that you blocked the hubble domain. This has the benefit of preventing the cameras from ā€œupgradingā€ the firmware, but also causes the stream to become unavailable in the Hubble app and site.

I now use Home Assistant to view my streams instead. And use an iOS app that supports rtsp feeds whenever I need the audio stream since HA doesnā€™t support audio streams on cameras.

Doesnā€™t your router have any sort of parental controls? I used mine to basically block the Motorola cams from accessing the internet at all hours of the day (had to give them fixed IPs of course).

Blocking ota.hubble.in does not prevent the Hubble app from working, it only stops the automatic firmware updates.

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this threadā€¦

In case anyone else has the same issue, my model number is: 1662, the downgraded firmware file is here: https://ota.hubble.in/ota1/1662_patch/1662-03.10.11.fw.pkg and works a treat now in Security Spy.

I installed with the fwupgrade.html page and then blocked using the MAC address on my router.

Thanks again!

Hi! Once this issue is resolved, does anyone know which command to send to turn on the cameraā€™s infrared lights? With the motorola app, whenever I open the app the LEDs will turn on. However, when using HA, it is only possible to use the camera when there is lighting! Thanks!
