Music Assistant: resume feature for audio books / podcasts

Hi everybody,

I have quite many audio books on my Plex server that are accessed via Music Assistant. These books are file-per-chapter, so (mostly) a bunch of mp3 files.

Would it be possible to declare certain files (either manually, or via artist name, album name, tag, etc.) as “resumable”? Why only certain files? I am sure it’d take a lot of space if MA would keep track of every single album - and usually this isn’t such a big deal (at least for me) when listening to music.

Scenario: I open Music Assistant and chose “artist: George Carlin”, then “album: When Will Jesus Bring The Pork Chops”, then press “play”. It will start at track 01. I listen up to track 33. Then I play something completely different, i.e. “NOFX - They’ve Actually Gotten Worse Live”.

The next day - or whenever -, I play Pork Chops again (the album, making sure not to chose an individual track - but rather, just press play where all tracks are listed)… it would be so nice if Music Assistant would have registered that I had previously listened up to track 33, and then start at track 34 (or, if it doesn’t matter much) perhaps even start at track 33 at the exact position I had previously left off (or, ideally, skip back 30 seconds further than that, this could be customizable)?

This is actually why I haven’t included Music Assistant in my workflow enough. I really like listening to audio books when on the computer or working out. But I don’t feel like writing down the exact track I stopped at when l’d want to play something else on that same media player the audio book had just been playing on. So I don’t, just so that I can simply “unpause” and be right where I need to be when I want to listen to that audio book again.

I cannot be the only person that would benefit from such a feature, right?

Thank you for considering this

Music assistant is it’s own software, separate from Home Assistant.
I do not know their feature request system, but I should check here
