My take on a home dashboard running on the Lenovo ThinkSmart View and managing multiple devices running Fully Kiosk

If you have already installed lineage 15.1 why do you ask how to do just that?

My bad …I think maybe in the process I missed something regarding the black sides

So i have installed and editted 3 panels, huge thanks to @pgale for making this available for us to customize.
The big negative that i have with these, is that on all 3 devices, VLC media player is not playing audio from rtsp streams, and frigate cards that open with audio on, also do not have audio on.

I really didn’t want to be that person but I am a little stuck on the process

I have managed to flash to the device (thank god for that old laptop left in a drawer) but when I reboot the TSV the QFIL tool menu only shows these three options and not Partition Manager.

I have to assume I am doing something really daft and apologies if this isn’t the right place to ask

TIA

Where did you get the QFIL from? It should be inside the archive listed in the GitHub repo in the instructions?

  1. Download the programs and tools to do the flashing:

The Menu should look like in this video:

I assume that you have QFIL from some other source, because the installer in the GitHub repo suggests you are using a different version.

12. Install QPST

a. Open the QPST 2.7.496 folder

b. Double click the file QPST.2.7.496.1.exe

That’s exactly me being that person, thanks… didn’t think to look elsewhere…

I did use the download links from the GitHub tutorial though but will double-check my steps

Onwards and upwards and thankyou

Have you posted on Facebook about the Xiaomi Mi Smart Clock? You should make a write-up on the forum as well, like @pgale did his on the ThinkSmart View.

For people who have this, does the Fully Kiosk API call to interact with the display work? For example:

  • Turn display on or off
  • Change brightness
  • If display is currently off, can you touch/double tap the screen to turn it on to get a quick glance of the screen?

I’m wondering how well this might work as a bedside clock with access to HA controls. Ideally, I want to use a motion sensor to dim and turn off the display, and also be able to touch the screen to wake up the display (to the previous brightness level) without having to fumble for power button. Does Fully Kiosk or Wallpanel have access to display on/off/brightness on the ThinkSmart View?

does the MIC work for you o the Xiaomi Mi S
mart Clock?

I use my TSV’s (x7) around the house and make extensive use of Fully Kiosk Browser.

Fully Kiosk does indeed control the screen (with Lineage). It can turn the screen on/off and set the dim level. I have an Athom mmWave sensor in each room and through a set of automations and blueprints, each screen comes on with occupancy detection. Works really well. I also have a maintenance dashboard where I can set and reset each TSV …

As to bedside table device, I put a lot of time into creating a dashboard with a fully featured alarm clock automation I developed. I did a lot of testing. The biggest issue is that there is no working tap to wake on Lineage (one of the few bugs/shortcomings) and the screen at its very lowest setting is still too bright for me (the backlight is quite bright). So even after third party solutions to dim the screen using an overlay, the backlight can’t be dimmed any further. It works though and you may find it acceptable.

You can use the various buttons to wake the screen but I found that too clumsy/difficult in the middle of the night. I have my devices in portrait and the pressure needed to press the vol button means you have to hold the device to stop it falling over. Landscape would be much easier but I don’t have room on my small bedside table and I much prefer portrait.

My other thought that I’ve not tried yet is to have some kind of separate proximity sensor so if I move my hand towards the screen, it will come on. All very possible but not explored sensors.

Hope that helps a bit?

Thanks for the feedback, super helpful. I was hoping they made the screen just one big touch button to wake the display. But at least having full control of the display (both dimming and on/off) is nice. Which version of Lineage are you using? I read that the two version that work is Android 8 or Android 11, but the 11 is new/buggy still.

Lineage is 15.1 but that’s on Android 8.1. It’s a different build but still Android.

could you make a view with a single button (becomes your tap to wake) that covers the entire screen in black, when you press the button it goes to your main page, or whatever page you want? a bit of a workaround

The screen would always be on though and the backlight is quite noticeable in dark conditions. There are a couple of apps that can set a dark overlay but the backlight is always the same.

hmm, well that sux, I guess I’ll have to get a few mmWave sensors then orrr…

maybe we can set the FullyKiosk motion detection to a lower % at night, I have sent Java commands to it before so all you have to do, maybe, is wave your hand in from of it. Might take some fiddling so it doesn’t catch you moving in the middle of the night, then have a timer to turn off again

I did try that with some success now I come to think of it. Give it a go and see what you think. My bedside device has been off for a month or two

Amazing post with full of details about how this has been set up as a “non wall” panel
I have one stupid question. I installed LineageOS 15.1 and I have FKB to manage remotely the ThinkSmart device.
However, there is no way to reboot or shutdown the device using LineageOS, it just these options does not appear in the device itself. Why? is there any workaround for it? I would like to avoid just disconnect power button every time I need to shutdown…
Thank you,

you can set these up in settings and use the camera shutter or volume buttons to do other activity like reboot. You can also do this via KFB or using ADB commands
