New Forum Layout

I’m not a fan of the new forum layout, having the list on the left feels like just wasted space, I preferred having it under my avatar where I could also easily see new/unread/latest there, I don’t need the full menu off to the left 24/7 when that space could be used to expand replies in a conversation.

I know, things change, but it’s not as clean or efficient IMHO. Maybe it’s just how I like to use this forum software (that I use on a lot of different sites so I’m used to it being the way it was).

I’ll also add that the behavior has changed in a bad way. It used to be I could look at unread and it it came off my list of unread items, now I literally have to scroll from top to bottom to get it to clear, otherwise I read the latest response and it still shows up on unread even though I just read what was unread (and even after clearing cache and reloading the list of unread topics).

It’s been like 4 minutes, give it some time. We just updated discourse, they made the changes :wink:

You can just click the 3 stripes on the left, and it’ll disappear :stuck_out_tongue:

:man_shrugging: there’s ways to change this stuff but we aren’t experts. I’m sure we’ll make changes as time goes on.

Yea, great find. I still miss my avatar links but, as @petro pointed out I’m just being impatient while the new version is dialed in.

I don’t know if this is just a firefox thing, but the little user icon in the top right isn’t appearing correctly for me. It’s go words over it. I can’t seem to attach a screenshot (must be a permission thing).

Sorry, it’s working now! Just being impatient.

@petro it’s all your fault you know (and of the other mods/admins) because it’s been such a great forum that everyone wants to be here all the time! All morning I kept refreshing thinking “are we there yet?” :grimacing:

One down side to that is it’s the only way at the moment to find new/unread/etc so might as well leave it open until everything is in it’s final state.

Of this I have no doubt! With so many posts, I have no doubt at all that it was a headache!

My ‘default’ page is to open unread, but you can also click the (ugly) HA icon to see the counts for Latest, New and Unread :wink:

And we cannot copy/paste images anymore in the new layout ??

What I’m finding is that my unread counts for threads I’m tracking isn’t going to 0 on threads I’ve caught up on :frowning: makes it harder to follow the conversations I’m tracking and new threads (like this one) that I’m tracking aren’t showing up in the unread listing.

I like the 3 stripe menu button. But if you have the width :smiling_face: then the forum shouldnt move to the right but just stay put and the menu open to the left imo. Other then that i like the menu itself.

I have to agree with the OP- that is a HUGE waste of screen space. And mostly useless. It would be different if we could dismiss it.
