These links might be useful:
Where is the “latest” button?
At the top of the page… (where it always was)
It won’t currently let me post a screen shot unfortunately.
Its no longer in the menu thats accessible by clicking on your avatar - thats my biggest bugbare with the new version of discourse
Sorry, I had to be more specific. I do not see it in the mobile version where is was in the hamburger menu. And not in the new menu as well as in my profile picture…
Another thing (might also have to do with migration?) is that the read counters do not disappear when I read it but stay…
I am no longer able to upload images to posts.
I would attach an image of the error but I can’t lol
Sorry, there was an error uploading IMG_0146.jpeg. Please try again.
I don’t know if templating will be able to bring back some of the old ease-of-use, but I’m hopeful it does.
Having the links to new/unread on the avatar is easier than hamburger menu (or clicking the logo or using = and clicking) as it is is more steps to get to the same result. Perhaps I’m picking nits, and if this is how it is from now on then I’ll get used to it but I found myself disinterested in going through all those steps the dozen or so times I visit the forums to follow up on questions I asked, answers I gave that got replies or new activity on watched threads.
I read the release notes, there are some pretty cool new features but some of them aren’t really things I think will get a lot of use on this forum, like much of the chatting stuff since this isn’t a social site as much as it is a Q&A site but I get that there were probably some things under the hood that make this site better that’s not as much in the view of an end user that really drove this massive update.
Regardless, I know it was a huge lift for the mods and admins and I surely appreciate all the hard work that is done voluntarily by you all to keep a great community going strong.
My man, we don’t write the forum software. We can’t pick and choose features. Our last update to the server was in 2020. If you have requests to change functionality, here is not the place. You have to ask on discourse’s website. I’m not sure how more clear I can be: We do not write this software. We have no control over the features.
I was only commenting on templating, and I do understand, I will not make any more comments.
You can change your default homepage to latest if you prefer that over categories (the forum default). Then clicking the HA icon will always take you to /latest
. (Not sure if that’s your goal, or if you simply miss the button.) See interface preferences at Home Assistant Community
The Topics link in the sidebar should also direct to /latest
, unless I’m mistaken.
Heavy Discourse (the forum software) user here, happy to answer questions where I can.
Was it really necessary to change the Forum?
Was it a decision of Discourse - “let’s HA community use our new engine”?
Are users of this forum engine forced to move to the new version of the engine?
Is anyone else finding that the popup for ‘fix code formating’ doesn’t work in the new forum layout? For me, no matter which option I choose, nothing happens. I have to click the ‘X’ to close the popup and fix whatever the forum doesn’t like.
Just use 3 backticks, way faster. No mouse required. this is a backtick → `
you can even specify the language it chooses so that it formats the code & keywords properly
this:
is:
yaml: something
number: 1
import time
time.sleep(7)
for i in range(10):
print("Hello sparkydave")
iOS 12 isn’t supported anymore:
Oh no, it’s not about how to do it, I’m fully aware of how, my point is that the popup isn’t working. Even pressing “ignore” does nothing.
I can see a browser console error, so this is a JS issue. A forum admin should check if there is an update to the Unformatted Code Detector theme component installed. (It wouldn’t have necessarily been updated as part of the Discourse core upgrade, themes and theme components are independent)
Is there some reason why the forum user preference setting for how long ago the “new” posts tab should show isn’t followed?
I have the setting set to 2 days (I’ve also tried the other settings in the drop down) but it never shows posts in the “new” tab list that were posted more than 24 hours ago even tho there are new posts that were created since my last visit longer ago than that.
