Pressure/Force sensor?

I am getting new carpet soon and was thinking that it might be nice to put some kind of sensor on the steps before the pad and carpet goes in. Likely using ESPHome for connection.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks. That looks perfect. I was searching for load cell and strain gauge which is why I never saw this post.
I don’t have any plans for what I want to do with sensors on the steps, but while the old carpet is out. I want to put down a strip at the top and the bottom of the stairs. I can run a few ft of pigtail wires into the basement for later connection. One thing I am considering is to put a WS2812 led light strip into the railing.
