Pressure sensor for packages

Is it possible to come up with a solution that does not require soldering iron that would send an alert that the package is placed in top of the pressure sensor and that when someone tries to steal a package the alarm will sound? Here’s a video demonstrating what I mean:

Perhaps using an Amazon Dash and having the weight of the package push the button?

The Dash button may appear to be recessed and it does not sense a “pressure” if one of the package does get taken off. Plus, Amazon Dash is too small if a package is very large.

How about using a pressure mat with a z-wave sensor?

It looks like I’ve found one:

But how am I going to hide the wires to the sensor so that it cannot be cut by package thieves and professional burglars?

I will probably need to have a mat that is custom-made that will say “Place Package here.”

And lastly, here’s my scenario, something that Package Guard does:

  1. A UPS/USPS delivery man places package(s) in a mat. Home Assistant turns on the “package” input.
  2. The mat’s pressure sensor sends an alert to Home Assistant that package is delivered. Home Assistant will send a Pushbullet notification to me on behalf.
  3. I can tell Home Assistant that I’m ready to pick up the package, so I set the package input to “off.”

If a package thief picks up the package and the “package” input is on, Home Assistant can blast the alarm near the mat for let’s say, 3 minutes. I will also get an alert that a package thief tried to take my package.

If you’ve watched the two videos above, you will know what I mean.

Will this work? I’m unsure if Home Assistant can detect a variation in pressure depending on how many packages are placed on top of mat.
