If you are in the US, continue using the August integration which supports the August and Yale Access brands. No migration is needed.
I appreciate it, I can try that. I bought the zwave version and would prefer not to use wifi due to battery life. The integration page says a wifi connect bridge is required. Should I figure the wifi out as well?
Cheers
It would be useful if you would not just drop feed information on the device which you are seeking support onâŚ
So which model you have? How is it working with the Yale Access app, if you donât have a Connect Wifi bridge? I am quite confusedâŚ
Could you please provide detailed information, then we can somehow tell you what you can and cannot do?
I have the YRD420-ZW2-619. It has the Z-wave smart module. I set up the lock assumingly via Bluetooth (as I can only connect to it via the app when I am close to it), and shortly after added the lock to my HA instance through Z-wave (Zooz stick). However, just through Z-wave I am only really able to lock/unlock. I assume the integration is where it adds more functionality like code management, etc. via HA rather than via the app.
I specifically wanted to go with Z-wave due to lower power consumption. If the connect bridge is necessary for full functionality Iâll pick one up.
I apologize if I sound uneducated. Iâve got plenty of stuff integrated with my HA that Iâve done without issue, this one is just throwing me through a loop since there are so many integration options.
The only advantage that the Connect Bridge would give you, is that you will receive information on the Operator who opened the lock, if that model supports that.
Code management wasnât the purpose of the integration as I recall, but rather to be able to add it to Home Assistant and control from it (lock/unlock). But @bdraco can correct me if I am wrong.
Do you have DoorSense? Then it would tell you if the door is open or closed.
Maybe discuss your question and issues in this topic, the user seem to have a similar lock as you.
For code management it seems you can use the Z-wave module.
No worries. Yes, that one is a quite complicated one, as there are multiple options. But you need to understand that Yale/August sells products in multiple continents with different product ranges and communication protocols. Including Bluetooth, Zwave, Zigbee and throught the Connect Bridge - Wifi as wellâŚ
Edit:
Maybe this discussion will help as well:
Or this one:
Or just do a search on the forum for Yale Assure Lock 2 Zwave
âŚ
Much appreciated - it did come with Door sense, Iâve just not installed that part yet. Thank you for all of the links. Looks like Iâve got some reading to do!
I have it added to Z-wave fine but functionality seems limited so perhaps Iâve mucked something up lol.
Cheers!
It is not clear for me from those discussion what is the ZW2 and ZW3 module support exactly. But I just skimmed throughâŚ
Hi,
I am using the yale assure lock 2 here in indonesia, which i brought over from the USA. The lock is connected by bluetooth method only via esphome bluetooth proxy. Home assistant just updated to 2024.12. My lock is still working using the yale bluetooth integration and august integration. I can lock/unlock using the HA app on my android while connected to my home wifi, and get almost instantaneous updates regarding the door status via door sense. I Dont even have the yale home login. When setting up the lock 5-6 months ago , i had downloaded yale access app and august app APK , and initially logged in via VPN, as i had heard these locks are region locked.
So, do i need to migrate to yale home integration or just keep going. The lock is super important to me as it is the only lock i have on my main entrance.
Thanks
Ash
Locks that are intended for use in the USA should continue to use the August integration and should not migrate.
Hi Nick,
Thanks for replying⌠great reliefâŚ
Ash
Is anyone else having issues with home assistant not auto detecting Yale bridge/hub thereby preventing being able to add the integration.
In Australia, use Yale Home app. Four Yale locks linked to Yale Connect Plus Hub 2. Four locks being Yale keyless connected lock with home module, Yale assure sl with home module, Yale unity security screen lock and Yale unity entrance lock.
I click on add the Yale integration, authenticate successfully but Yale integration does not appear in auto discovered devices. Two of the locks do appear as Bluetooth integrations but looks like I have no way to get the offline key to even add them.
Tried to add them into google home as an experiment - worked without any issues.
Recent purchases so have not had these integrated into home assistant previously.
Running home assistant core 2025.1.2
Help very welcome!!!
Iâm having a similar problem in AUS, my unity front door lock is detected and added by the Yale integration, as well as the screen lock.
But for the Yale Bluetooth, only the Front Door was detected by HA, by name âFront Doorâ and added fine. The screen lock comes up as LC000LW (XXXX), and I canât add it, because the key isnât detected automatically for some reason?
Do I need to unlock the screen door, via app (so that it is awake and online), then restart the Yale Intergration whilst it is awake for the key to be detected? or do I have the wrong idea and have to walk the path of finding and rooting an old phone?
Thanks
So, I have reset the fly screen lock and all added fine now.
Second question though, does link locking not work when a lock is locked / unlocked via bluetooth? It doesnât seem to, I assume the link locking requires cloud and to go via the bridge, they donât send state to each other via bluetooth?
To get around I have created a lock group with both bluetooth elements, and with constant connection enabled is super fast and great! Any idea on how much this effects battery life?
Thanks,
Without constant connection, my screen door lasts hardly more than a month unfortunately. I use rechargeable batteries panasonic enelope pro.
Aside from that, recently it takes sometimes 2-3 minutes to unlock the door. Used to be maximum 10-20 seconds which is not acceptable any more!
@bdraco are there any plans to include Yales new Smart Alarm range into this integration?
Yale is currently switching all their smart alarm systems from the Yale Alarm to the Yale Home ecosystem and currently they do not show up within Home Assistant via this integration.
Nothing is planned for alarms at this time.
Anybody having trouble with this integration again?
Iâm having similar behaviour as when it first launched. Lock status doesnât update unless I go into the Yale app first and then it updates in HA.
Please be sure you didnât miss this alert as youâll need Home Assistant 2025.8.0 or later for the integration to continue to work starting next week
Iâm currently on HASS 2025.11 with an August WiFi Lock Gen 4 using the Yale Bluetooth integration. I have a few questions about the âalways connectâ requirement:
- Can I safely restore a backup from 2024.11 to continue using my August Lock Gen 4 without the âalways connectâ requirement? Would this be a viable workaround?
- Does the August WiFi Lock Gen 4 simply not support Bluetooth state broadcasting at all? Is that why âalways connectâ is now mandatory to receive manual lock/unlock state updates?
- How did the integration receive state updates in versions prior to 2025.9? Was it using periodic polling, or was there a different mechanism?
Iâd appreciate any insights, as CR123A batteries are expensive and I want to avoid frequent replacements.
Thanks for your questions! I need to clarify a few things:
Integration clarification: This post is for the Yale integration (non-US/Canada). It looks like youâre using the August (US/Canada) integration based on your lock model.
For August locks, you have better options:
If youâre using the August Cloud integration, you donât need always-connected mode at allâthe bridge handles state updates for you. This is the recommended approach for battery life.
If youâre concerned about battery drain, Iâd suggest disabling WiFi in the lock and using a bridge instead. This will significantly improve battery life while maintaining reliable state updates.
Regarding the Yale Access Bluetooth integration and always-connected mode:
Yes, it will drain batteries faster because bleak (the underlying Bluetooth library) currently doesnât support adjusting connection parameters after connecting. Implementing this would be a 4-6 week project. More details are in issue #153977 (which youâve already posted in).
About state updates without always-connected mode:
The only way to get lock/unlock state changes advertised by the lock (without always-connected mode) is to have it paired with HomeKit. Once paired with HomeKit, the Bluetooth library can detect when the lock state changes and connect to fetch an update.
Why it seemed to work earlier this year:
If you noticed the Bluetooth integration detecting state changes without HomeKit earlier this year, there was actually a bug in the library where it would reconnect and drain the battery even when always-connected mode was off. That bug has since been fixed.
Bottom line: For your August WiFi Lock Gen 4, use the August Cloud integration with a bridge for the best battery life and reliable state updates.
