Reloading a service after it dies

I have 2 problematic services running here. Accuweather and Smartthings. The Accuweather works fine but many mornings the daily forecast has not yet updated (it will later in the morning but not when I’m up at about 7am. It can be quickly updated by manually going to my Devices/Services and reloading the service to update it.
My Smartthings service will randomly shut down (maybe 1 or 2 times per week) and then my locks controlled by it go offline. It also can be quickly brought online by manually going to my Devices/Services and reloading the service.
.
Now… anyone know of a way to automate these reloads? My Developer Tools/Actions page doesn’t seem to address reloading a service.

Not pretending this is right, but I have an IQ Air device that seems to stop making air quality/temperature/humidity information available on irregular intervals.

If the temperature in the room becomes unavailable or unknown for a certain period of time I force a reload of an entity using homeassistant.reload_config_entry

- id: '1732869832665'
alias: System - Automatic Integration reload (IQ AIr)
description: Reloads the AirQuality integration when the temperature disappears
  triggers:
  - trigger: state
    entity_id:
    - sensor.office_temperature
    to: unavailable
    for:
      hours: 0
      minutes: 10
      seconds: 0
  - trigger: state
    entity_id:
    - sensor.office_temperature
    to: unknown
    for:
      hours: 0
      minutes: 10
      seconds: 0
  conditions: []
  actions:
  - action: homeassistant.reload_config_entry
    target:
      entity_id: sensor.office_temperature
    data: {}
  mode: single

Might be that all that is happening is that it doesn’t reload the Integration, just forces HA to try and get the data again, but I rarely see unknown for the office environment info anymore.

You do not need to reload the entire integration to trigger an update, the homeassistant.update_entity should work as well. You should also check the integration if automtic polling isn’t disabled by mistake.

When polling mnually, you do need to take into account that most services have a rate limit.

I’d start looking for a different weather integration. Read this and check your emails.

I just received the email yesterday and trying to decide which weather integration I’ll switch to next.

Excellent! and an amusing read. This was my final solution to build a little “Watchdog” automation sitting in the background. It just watches for an entity that smartthings controls and reloads the service if the entity is unresponsive.

- id: smarthings_watchdog
  alias: smarthings_watchdog
  description: 'Watchdog for SmartThings'
  trigger:
    platform: state
    entity_id: lock.south_door
    to: unavailable
    for: 00:05:00
  condition: []
  action:
    service: homeassistant.reload_config_entry
    target:
      entity_id: lock.south_door

Thank you

homeassistant.reload_config_entry doesn’t work anymore.
It gives the error no target set even if the target is the same. It has stopped working since 2026.4.1

same problem, can't find a solution. smartthings integration breaks every week or so. manual reload fixes it all. no way to automate a reload of the service. hope we get something for it
