Slim Samsung galaxy A8 wallpannel (wireless charged)

Hi there all,

would like to share my wallpannel setup that i’ve been using for the last couple of months. We’ve been using this tablet daily for quick controll in home assistant.
And it is a nice conversation starter

After gaining a lot of inspiration I had some requirements for the design :

• A sleek and simple design.
• Multiple applications for around the frame.
• Being able to easily remove the tablet from the wall.

I have used the following products:

• 10mm x 1mm magnets
• Nillkin Type-C Wireless Charging Receiver 17CM
• Anker PowerWave Pad Wireless Qi Certified Charger 10W
• Samsung galaxy tab A8
• Samsung Clear Edge Cover
• 2USB chargeUp USB A charging station 12 W 2.4 A
• Sonoff - Dual R3 wifi relay (needed to avoid overcharging)
• 3D printed files I designed
• Superglue

For the dashboard I used Adaptive mushroom that i’ve been tweaking for a wile.

I hope this will give you guys some insperation to make something yourself.

While the installation is quite neat, what is the gap between wall and tablet when mounted?
Why didn’t you use some tablet with qi charging?

the gap is 22mm and I already had this tablet.
But this design could also be used for devices with a build in wireless charger.

This was a solution i have been looking for for a very long time. Screwing an expensive tablet to the wall if you don’t use it for anything else is a waste. And a slow one only gives frustrations. The key hooks make the distance from the wall less bad.

I Just ordered everything (only a white charger instead of black) and an a9+ tablet instead of a8. My Friend just printed everything and went flawlessly with the files. i just want to say that i appreciate making the files public super big. Now just test in practice how strong the magnet system works. i can’t wait until it’s ready.

The biggest challenge was to place the magnets on the tablet cover exactly right. i noticed that this was really accurate to millimeters. but i did it! it works great. i used a regular usb plug with smart plug in combination with Kiosk browser.

I haven’t HA’d in quite a while but now that we’ve had to replace our dead light bulb from the Action with a new one, it’s the perfect time to do some upgrades again… Can’t be without lights during New Year’s Eve!

Is anyone using the Nilkin Magic Pad plus for a samsung tab a9 tablet?

somehow I am unable to charge my samsung tab a9 with it.
It only says charging, but no battery percentage is added even after 10 minutes.

On the other hand, charging works well when I use the pad on my samsing s10e phone.

tested using ampereflow app, in my phone I get 3-5W of power. in my samsung tablet a9, I get 0.8 - 1.5 W.

It is intended to glue the magnetic frame onto the tablet cover

You mentioned the Sonoff - Dual R3 wifi relay, but didn’t provide any details for how it was implemented. Can you share more info on what you are doing with that device?

I initially used it to physically disable charging. At that time, I had created an automation where the tablet would be physically disconnected from power once the battery reached 90%, and charging would resume when it dropped to 20%. The Sonoff is therefore integrated into the wiring that supplies power to the wall panel in my ceiling.

However, I no longer use it to control the tablet’s charging. The tablet’s own overcharge protection has proven to work well. I now mainly use the Sonoff to monitor the tablet’s energy consumption in Home Assistant.
