Try with your phone camera, those are commonly using infrared LEDs.
Oh damn ok, is there a way to monitor with Glow?
I don’t know Glow. What sensor you supposed to use for LED? Either is visible or IR…
You use a light detection deivce to measure the flashes of a normal LED. I would imagine this would not work with Glow.
My phone will tell me if this is a IR LED?
I suspect that square (or perhaps another symbol) on the LCD display is the equivalent of the LED. I have a similar meter (actually may also be an Elster) that does exactly this.
Thanks Ben.
Are you able to pull data from it? This meter seems to be a real pain in the ass. It appears that either I need the flashing LED or a P1 port.
I VERY briefly considered trying to make something to read the flashing LCD, but pretty much immediately decided it was a terrible idea (compounded even further by the fact that the meter is nearly on the front on my house). Plus, I’m an Energy Engineer so grabbing data besides just consumption was more appealing relative to any effort involved.
Went with a pair of these:
Been very happy with my choice.
Hmm ok I only have PoE at the meter as in the form of a cat5. No USB or even power.
Yes. If you don’t see it with naked eyes but you see it through phone camera, it’s IR led.
It doesn’t go at the meter, it goes in your main electrical panel inside your house.
EDIT: If you’re not comfortable working with AC power, DON’T.
Looking into this project,
PiggyMeter — Aquaticus documentation
I can see this board is a IR transmitter and receiver.
IEC62056-21 Optical Interface from Aquaticus on Tindie
Is there any other hardware I can use that would be locally available or do I need to go for this specifically?
It looks like this is compatible with my meter.
Thanks
It looks like I may have 2 possible options here,
an IEC 62056-21 probe to read via IR,
Or, the SO Auxiliary port.
If you have that optional output, that’s definitely the easiest option, as a hardware you only need pullup resistor
Yea and just use a pulse counter right.
Pulse counter or meter.
Keep the wiring short. Or shielded.
Yea I have a wt-32 ethernet ESP32 right at the meter powered via PoE.
I will wire straight from that to the meter, just hoping my meter actually has this aux output.
Will confirm and see how I go.
If not, and you have IR LED pulse output, only additional hardware is phototransistor…
Yes but I think it uses a whole protocol to communicate.
Here is the manual for the meter.
Do you think I could just use this with the HA Glow integration?
