SmartWings motorized shades (FYI: awesome)

Any luck with this? Im getting the same issue. Tried inverting via remote, and inverting via z2m. Seems like HA and Google Assistant are forever inverted.

I’m in the same boat now with the Zigbee version. I just purchased my first one of these and it works splendidly with the exception of this strange inversion inside of homeassistant. I’ve tried everything I can to make it work properly but no combination of settings seems to make it work right.

I’m guessing I might try building my own template cover next to see if that will work. Shame too because otherwise these things are amazing and I want to buy about 16 more to outfit my entire home.

This is crazy/foreign to me. I joined both my blinds to Home Assistant and they have been perfectly represented and controlled since then.

Hey Paul, I know this is an old thread, but I just purchased the Graywind cellular shades and am able to integrate with HA using ZHA and a Sonoff USB 3.0 dongle. Unfortunately, I do not get the battery percentage. Are you on the latest version of HA? Are you using ZHA to integrate?

I am on the latest version of HA, and I’m using Zigbee2MQTT to integrate. I’m also on the same dongle as you.

Thanks for the reply. Not too sure I want to switch to z2m to get percentage. I’ll see if anyone else comes up with the battery solution for ZHA before I decide to switch. How is the battery life on your blinds? I have 2 28" blinds and one 53" blind. I’m assuming the larger blind will probably run low on battery sooner than the smaller ones.

Is anyone getting these to work well on the ZHA integration? I have the zigbee cellular shades and I’m getting constant unsupported cluster command errors. Radio reception is also terrible: -90+ DBm @ ~5m and it won’t switch to the router that’s 2m line of sight. I emailed support about changing out for the zwave motor but they said that would require a full rebuild. They offered a hub but I’d really like to avoid more hubs if I can.

That’s sad. I’ve been eyeballing this company’s products and was ready to make a purchase this week. Didn’t realize the Zigbee integration had issues as it’s one of the more-affordable options.

I already have 90 Zigbee devices without connection problems, but I also use ZHA. I’ve looked into Zigbee2MQTT, but it’s so complicated, and I don’t wanna have to move over my current network on my Skyconnect.

Does the Z-Wave integration have the same issues?

Like @jamesmanone asked, is ZHA working properly?

I have the Z-Wave version and have had no issues.

Good to know, literally just about to order some! They have 15% off right now for BF. Do they report battery level and shade position?

Do your Matter Levitate shades also have a mysterious switch shown as an “Outlet” in Home Assistant? Did you ever figure out what it’s for? Just got mine set up last night and renamed the _2 shades to _top and they’re generally working ok but I’m very puzzled by this switch.

I have two of these blinds up and running via the Z2M add-on. I can’t remember how I inverter the motor, probably via there remote, but I have absolutely no issues with inversion in Home Assistant.

My problem is that the blinds don’t report their position during movement, which is a problem as I use trend sensors to see whether each blind was last going up or down, and then I use that to flip the functionality of my wall switches so I only need one button.

Also, with one of the blinds, there is no way to set it to anything other than 0% or 100% without manually hitting the stop button in my HA dashboard card roughly where I want it to stop. If I try to set it to a specific figure, it just moves a tiny bit, then stops. The other one continues to the set point, no idea why.

I have a bunch of IKEA Tredansen blinds in a similar style which work perfectly, but they don’t make them in a big enough size for some of my windows, which is why I went down the more expensive Smartwings route for two windows.

@Uh2 Apologies to resurrect an old thread but… I just got the Z-wave version of SmartWings and am having all sorts of issues with maintaining connection; worked with support through a factory reset on one and now can’t get zwave on that to work at all (they are sending a new module).

If your Z-wave version is it the Long Range module, or the standard protocol? I was wondering if they just have a poor LR version?

Thanks for any insights.

Linwood

I have 10 of the zwave and they have been pretty good. All are less than 6 months old but none are LR. All but one paired smoothly and that one hooked on after a few factory resets. They are currently paired to a hubitat c8.

They can be a bit sluggish to wake up to zwave commands so automations to close a group of 5 sometime leaves one open. It is also a bit weird that they have really low signal strength despite being next to a bunch of mains powered zwave switches that all have solid reception.

To solve the sluggishness to commands I added a bond hub which is used to issue open and close commands to shade groups via automations. Zwave is used for dashboards and HomeKit. This has been solid.

I would like to try bringing them into HA using a tubes style POE zwave setup I spun up, but haven’t been feeling like diving back into the pairing process yet. As you experienced, it’s tedious.

That’s interesting, they must have changed to the long range version since you bought yours, I wonder if that is the problem – they changed but didn’t get the software or hardware quite right. I’ve been working steadily on this for days and they simply do not work consistently. Of three, one seems to work properly, one will not do anything (they told me to do two consecutive factory resets and afterwards the motor would not even talk to the zwave module, e.g. respond to commands), and one that works maybe 5-10% of the time if you spend enough time getting it to pair.

I’m very frustrated paying $1100 for three shades for a bay window that now I feel like I’ve got to trash and replace. I wish I had the specs for the zwave module, I’d replace it with an esphome module!

@Linwood No apologies necessary.

I have the regular wave module.

It might not be a stretch at all to assume there might be issues with the LR version.

Before you give up, are you able to update the firmware on your zwave controller, or add another one via USB?

I don’t know where I would get new firmware (I have asked them twice, they ignore the question). I assume that firmware gets customized to the application. I don’t see a USB, so it would need to be OTA not OTW (the battery module is outside and has USB, but it’s only got 2 wires from it to the motor, then 4 from motor to z-wave).

I meant new firmware for your zwave radio that’s running on your HA hardware.

Ah, sorry, yes during this I upgraded it to the latest version from zooz. No change.

I do wonder about the software in the module – it is quite old (as LR software goes).
