Stuck at "Loading Data" after updating core to 2024.12

Not that is helps right now, but perhaps for next upgrade cycle.

a) never update to a .0 release
b) prowl the forums before updating (which is why I’m seeing this)
c) only update to a .3 or .4

A .0 is the cutting edge and as expected it will cause some pain.

I agree 100%…but it’s also extremely rare that an OS or core update would crash the system for what appears, way too many users. As well, the fact that the HA honchos are staying quiet on this one🤬

Anybody got any ideas? I have the same issue. Running on a Pi

So it appears to be accessible whilst it’s booting up, but then once boot up has completed, it won’t load again. So you need to get in there whilst boot up is happening and try to instigate a restore in that brief window.

Update: I was able to restore a backup using this method

My HA stuck as well. I did restore backup using CLI.

I am also getting the same issue on both 2024.12 & 2024.12.1
Stuck on the “Loading data” screen.

Thankfully, I still had access via the HA MacOS App to was able to restore from there.

Also reported there:

Several machines updated OK but my Blue is stuck on Loading Data

anyone have any luck? I been spinning for several days and cant figure out how to fix it.

Same problem here. I was able to connect my iOS app to HA by turning HA off and on and restarting the app multiple times during the boot process of HA. After a couple of tries I was able to connect and restore my backup.

I am so out of my depths on this one. I’m stuck in the same loading screen. Rebooted a bunch of times trying to get in while booting. Starting over would be a major undertaking.

Can anyone guide me thru getting files off the SD card in the Pi? Or forcing it to boot in safe mode? Can I plug a keyboard into the Pi to do that?

Same problem,
I tried to do a restore but all my recent backups are partial and are not used. The first one I have of the full type is too old. Has anyone solved it differently? Is the cause understood?
But what if I still take the contents of the tar of the partial backup and overwrite it on the config directory?

I am also having problem accessing my HA dashboard as it is stuck on “Loading data” although all my automations are still working I can’t access my dashboard, this happened when I upgraded. Does anyone know how to get this to work? I am using the blue box. Thanks!

Is anyone experiencing this with 2024.12.2? I am yet to try it

Just tried it, same result. It’s ‘interesting’ to see how so many people seem to have issues, but HA does not seem to reply at all, anywhere… I mean, it’s been 8 days now…

I just managed to perform a restore via CLI to 2024.11.3. Now it works again. Will skip 2024.12.3 and wait for the next one.

How do you restore? I can login to core and see my backups but the command back is not found.

Trying to roll back with:

[core-ssh ~]$ ha core update --version 2024.11.3
Processing... Done.

Error: Another job is running for job group home_assistant_core

I’d rather have less frequent updates that work 100%

I used “back restore [backup filename] --homeassistant”. Restore took about 10 minutes. See Restore Backup in corrupted installation using CLI · Issue #24822 · home-assistant/home-assistant.io · GitHub for detailed instructions.

I managed to restore from backup. ls -larth /backups first to find a large recent backup, should be a full one then run:

ha backups restore 18c18eb6

You have to run the restore quite soon after the system boots or else it won’t work.

same problem here after the update from 2024.12.2 to 2024.12.3…unable to restore the backup (2024.12.2)…i restored the full os now wiith a 2024.11.4. That works, but all the new things are missing:|…So i tried to restore the backup from a 2024.12.2, but than the i got the same prob as before…the still not working UI…is there a way to restore the configuration files (automations and all the yaml’s) without the HA version?

I lost an entire day on this. :frowning:

After the update from 2024.12.2 to 2024.12.3, the system became unresponsive. In the CLI I also hit the “Error: Another job is running for job group home_assistant_core” message when trying to restore the last checkpoint. I tried all suggestions I could find here on the board, but nothing resolved the situation.

I finally decided to do a full restore (scary decission), with a backup of 2024.12.2. I tried the update to 2024.12.3 once more, but got stuck in the same situation. The system was again unresponsive, and in the CLI hissing that same “Error: Another job is running for job group home_assistant_core” message again.

The only option is another full restore. :upside_down_face:

I am restoring to 2024.12.2 again, and will skip 2024.12.3 for now. There is something wrong seriously wrong with this release.

On the possitive side, I could state that I learned how to restore the system with my eyes closed… but I would have preferred doing something else today. :grinning:
