Just ordered a Drayton Wiser with local API and look forward to ripping out the Tado at the weekend. Sorry, but their half-baked local integration and this degradation of the cloud service nails it for me. It’s done good service, but it’s gone and will be on eBay.
The Tado has become steadily less reliable and I was hoping that they would change their minds even at this late stage, but it seems not. If the local API was usable, this would have clearly been an option, but it’s not so in the bin it goes.
Shame, as it’s done decent service for me and has lasted 5 years longer than the Nest before it did (two weeks, when I realised just how crippled Google had made the API!)
Reply to myself, but the swap from Tado to Drayton Wiser took me 30 minutes of wiring (basically, a straight swap, wire for wire) plus a bit of mucking about to align the new entity names so I didn’t have to fix every automation I have around my heating. Net result is that things now work better, more predictably, and entirely locally and it only cost me £100 (of which I should get some back when I flog the old Tado controller on eBay).
It’s already refreshing to not have to reauthenticate several times a day or explain to my family why, once again, the water isn’t warming up on demand!
Our Tado has been superb since 2019 and I’m genuinely sorry that they’ve felt the need to go this route without having a proper, local option available to users. But, at the end of the day, they did and the move away from them was straightforward. Sadly, I’ll be no longer be recommending them in the future either.
I am not sure this will fix the problem. I have configured the polling to stay under the 100 API each day, but also I have now connection issues since 2 days
So I understand this is supposed to be caused by the API rate limit,
Mine has been timed out for 2 weeks now and I’ve left it in that state, updated HA, rebooted, got the same “The authentication process timed out. Please try again.” error, left it overnight, rebooted this morning and still getting the same error
The only thing I can think of is my homebridge and HA combined were making me hit the 20k limit, I just restarted homebridge and I do see an error about too many requests so I’ve disabled that, will see if it makes any difference tomorrow.
