TADO valves without using TADO server?

Finally, it works! I spent the day with tado support to get the missing thermostat updated. Despite all thermostats saying they were up2date, that one was horribly outdated.

However, I could not paid it with the bridge, so I had to reset everything:

  • Deleted tado home kit controller
  • Delete entity map file (just because I had good experiences with it :D)
  • Reset tado bridge with both buttons: Front and back
  • Paired all thermostats
  • Restarted HA
  • Added tado bridge as HomeKit Controller, of course only bridge shows up, even after 10 minutes of waiting.
  • So again deleted entity map file, restarted HA
  • Aaaaaaand all three thermostats are showing up

So thx to @Jc2k for also bearing with me

I am struggling with the same issue: Only the Tado Bridge is visible.
Restarted the Tado bridge and HA multiple times.

Just deleted storage/homekit_controller-entity-map file and the HomeKit accessore integration and restarted HA again. Now the Tado bridge is not visible anymore when adding a HomeKit accessoire. Not even after restarting HA en deleting the storage/homekit_controller-entity-map file again.

Hello. Can anyone tell me if I need to register my tado bridge on their website or I can do it via the homekit extension without bothering with the tado website?

Thank you,

James

E.g. - can I pair TRVs to the hub without a tado account? I’m beginning to think I can’t.

not sure if you managed to solve it but you need to add the zeroconf integration to your config.yaml to properly detect all devices besides the internet bridge via homekit (zeroconf:)

Thanks for the suggestion. I have added zeroconf: to the configuration.yaml and some Yeelights bulbs where discovered, but Tado is not. When adding them as an integration manualy, also Tado is not shown.
It was there before, but I have no clue why it will not appear in the list anymore.

I have my Tado thermostat added through the Homekit Controller integration. After enabling zeroconf in config.yaml you might need to remove and re-add the internet bridge through the Homekit Controller integration and/or reboot Home Assistant a few times, then for me it recognized both the internet bridge and the thermostat.

I am not sure why, but my Tado internet bridge is not available in the list anymore. Only two Yeelights and my Tradfri bridge.

have you also reseted the homekit status of your internet bridge? (it only restores the homekit status to unpaired, it doesn’t affect anything else)

Yes! After resetting the Internet Bridge, I was able to add it to HA and after a restart of HA, they are there. Great!

I just bought the Tado hardware (bridge, wired thermostat v3+ and 7 radiator thermostats) and want to control it with HA. I am using the HomeKit interface. The only thing while pairing is that I need to restart HA to get the new device. But I have all devices in HA and connected.

Now I am facing the issue that there are several radiator thermostats are requesting heat but the heat isn’t turned on. I tested the wired thermostat (set to 25) and the heat is turned on. But since the room the thermostat is installed is quite warm I wanted to have the radiator thermostats request heat as well. What am I doing wrong here?

It was not clear to me that I had to change the rooms for the Radiator thernostats. I had setup the areas in Hass but this is apparently not communicated. I have registered the hardware at the Tado website (which I hadn’t done because I wanted to use Hass/HomeKit. The Radiator thermostats were not completely configured according to the website. There was no zone assigned. When I assigned zones other than the one the Thermostat was is it all started to work.

I deleted the homekit controller and want to set it up again, however the bridge is not discovered anymore. What do I need to do?

I tried factory resetting the bridge:
https://support.tado.com/en/articles/3387334-how-can-i-reset-the-homekit-configuration-of-the-internet-bridge
But the LEDs never flash. Also there seems to be no pressure point for the factory reset button? I am trying with a pencil. My bridge is a V3 non V3+

I managed to reset my bridge and connect it again by carefully opening the case and pressing the button…The button seems a bit weird and does not reliably detect input in my case. This thing was driving me nuts. So far 3 out of my 4 valves are detected I will just wait a bit as I read it can take up to 1 hour to detect all?

Did you manages to get this working correctly? I tried recently but found that I had to have the Tado integration installed too.

Hi! Obviously, this thread is old and your question probably not relevant for you anymore. However, since it kept popping up on my recent search how to set up tado valves/thermostats with HA without using the tado cloud / server / app, I would like to quickly share my experiences.

In short: In my setup (HA OS installation on RP4, tado bridge, 2 tado valves) I could set everything up without any tado software/app/integration. Valves are in manual mode (“hand” instead of “house” in display), but temperatures can be set nicely set via HA/lovelace or in automations.

These steps have been working for me without the tado app or any prior registration, hence, out of the box

  • Connect tado bridge to power and LAN, wait until all three lights are lit
  • Install HomeKit-Controller (!) integration in HA - in my case tado bridge was immediately found
  • Unpack valves, take off back part, pull out paper to connect batteries
  • On the bridge, press and hold front “pair” button for 3 sec until light flashes quickly
  • On the valve, press and hold pairing button for 3 sec, wait for valve to show: - - -
  • On bridge, quit pairing mode by again pressing and holding the pairing button for 3 sec

In my case, the first valve appeared in HA as a device of the HomeKit-Controller integration after some minutes. For the second valve, it took an HA restart to show the device (or I have been too impatient).

Downside of not registering the equipment with tado might be that I am left out of updates etc., but for now, the functionality fully covers my needs.

Hope this helps. Have great start into 2022 everyone, Henry.

you can actually add the stuff to the tado app as well when using homekit, so you can still use its app through the cloud but homekit allows for a local connection to home assistant

Just chiming in here as people seem to have some experience with local tado:
Is there a service call to set the offset with this integration? I just found a service call for the cloud connection to do that under developer tools.

Did someone find a way to get battery statuses while using HomeKit-Controller without Tado server/cloud?

have you found a soloution to the battery status?
