Temperature sensor long life battery

Hello, I need some advice for a temperature sensor.
Here is some needed spec:

  • Wi-fi connection
  • Easy to configure in HA
  • No display
  • IP68 or dust proof at least
  • long life battery (no problem for a big size)
  • Cheap (under 20€)

Zigbee will save alot of battery compared to wifi.

I could consider to use it.
Any recomendations?

I’ve never used the Aqara temp/humidity sensor, but I have used other Aqara products with success. This one is Zigbee and has a two year battery life.

You really want to avoid WiFi with battery powered things. I have two identical Schlage locks and (for reasons) one of them uses Thread and the other Wifi. After six months, the Thread lock is currently at 92%. I’ve already replaced the batteries on the Wifi one twice.

This one works well is BLE integrated via eRemote WIFI. Confirmed to work inside a fridge.

Thank you!
Can I configure them in a mesh network?
It is industrial building intallation with a lot of dust.
I have the zigbee HUB on my HA server, the first sensor at 20meters and many other on a straight line every 20 meters.
So the last one is about 300m from the Zigbee HUB

Battery powered Zigbee devices generally don’t act as repeaters. If you want to do a Zigbee mesh, you’ll need some Zigbee devices that are plugged into mains power. Here’s a thread with some thoughts on those (not sure if any of them mention UK options):

I would suggest you will need Zigbee Repeaters along the way. These would function much like the aqara door sensors and only act as end devices.

These work well with Z2M and Aqara. Tuya Smart Life ZigBee 3.0 Signal Repeater USB Extender App Devices Mesh Home Assistant Deconz Automation

Battery powered sensors don’t have mesh options since they are powered off 99.9…% of time.
Also, they typically have very limited output power.

So either you fill your space with wired repeaters or you rethink your strategy with battery powered sensors.

If you’re referring to the Tuya tiny usb repeaters, watch out because these used to (not sure of the current situation now) drop zigbee messages from non-Tuya devices.

If you’re using them reliably with Aqara & other non-Tuya devices, then it would be great if you could add your experience with them on that github discussion.

They work fine with my aqara door sensors, magic cube and leak sensors. No noticeable drops. I will add to the discussion.

@ShadowFist Added my experiences.

Hello. This isn’t quite what you were looking for, but I got this working with some effort: https://youtu.be/EbrKLPQNKB8 (about 2:30 in).
