I went with SkyLink. They were reasonably priced on Amazon. Quiet belt model was still good power and speed for a two-car garage door opener. Didn’t have proprietary “learn” nonsense so I could just attach a zwave relay (Zooz) to integrate with HA. What was also important for me was that it could also disable all RF wireless remotes. It’s normally used on a timer, but I opt to keep it disabled and use some ESP boards with LoRa and fingerprint readers to replace the weaker rolling code opener designs.
It’s a tough market because Chamberlain has acquired and now owns the most popular brands including Liftmaster. They’ve cornered over 70% of the garage door opener market.
I went with a SkyLink. They were sued by Chamberlain 20 years ago because they sold a “universal” remote opener that could work with the proprietary Security+ remotes. Chamberlain lost that court battle but they’ve always been very adversarial to any competition to their total dominance.
I have an older LiftMaster that I can still use a Dry Contact switch with and this has been amazing for me. MyQ was always finicky and I ultimately just gave up on it when I move to HA. The beauty was being able to create a cover template for the garage using door contact sensors and the dry contact sensors combined. Allthis comes into Google Home (my front end of choice) pretty seamlessly.
I had MyQ and the integration was removed but the removal does not seem to have been successful. Every time I restart HA it warns me that MyQ is deprecated. There is no MyQ listed in my integrations but I keep getting the warnings. Are there any manual steps I can take to get rid of the last remnants of MyQ?
I ran into the same issue recently. The integration was removed but the devices and entities weren’t. To fix this I noted all the MyQ devices and entities, then shut down HA. I then edited the core.device_registry
and core.entity_registry
files under the .storage folder, removing the leftover MyQ devices and entities from each respective file. After starting HA back up everything was back to normal.
This is a reminder for those who have moved away from the MyQ integrations, please block internet access to your MyQ devices so we are not giving MyQ free data about our openers. Small thing to do but since they shutdown access to their servers they damn as hell won’t be getting access to my openers.
Agreed. But don’t just block at your router.
Fully disconnect them from your WiFi so they never accidentally update or phone home.
Delete from MyQ app.
Delete your MyQ account completely.
Just took the day to install my ratgdo device(s) and delete the MyQ stuff.
Alternative rat-ratgdo

There are other options. But why?
The paranoia is strong here…
About what?
About @NathanR and his approach to stupidifying his opener, not just trusting that blocking the ability for the opener to communicate with the Internet would be enough.
Honestly, the only reason to block the opener’s access is so that Chamberlain doesn’t get the data to mine. I prefer to have the option of quickly getting it back into my MyQ account, in the event some important update comes along.
I am wondering if Chamberlain could send an update that would make the Ratgdo not work.
I customized, ordered, and built several rat-ratgdo boards and then sold my 8 year old Liftmaster gateway on eBay. I ended up still making a net profit from getting off MyQ. Good riddance.
Idk. I’m still over here laughing about this entire debacle, using my local homekit integration that I told everyone to start using like 18 months ago but nobody wanted to listen to me.
Not my problem…
I haven’t found HomeKit to be all that reliable, generally. Honestly, the ratgdo provides what Chamberlain should have provided all along.
Not without also making their own wall switch buttons not work.
Ah. You’re one of those.
One of those that… leaves their house, and despite having a “home hub” set up, can only use HomeKit about 50% of the time?
I guess so.
There is no need to be nasty or sarcastic, @exx. You are better than this.
You don’t agree, that’s fine. You can laugh about this entire debacle, that’s fine also. Keep it to yourself.
Considering the facts:
- The HomeKit gateway got discontinued years ago - the company don’t sell nor support those gateways anymore.
- And even if one can still be found on eBay, most likely those are still many times more expensive than some of the alternatives.
- And then, the HomeKit gateway does not offer as many features as some of the alternatives.
- And one would still need a MyQ account and the app just to get it setup. What would happen if one day they dropped the support for the initial setup of this specific gateway in the app? (see #1 above.)
So, anyways, the above are facts, and here is my opinion for other users coming to this thread:
Whatever that was feasible for some users 18 months ago is no long that feasible these days. Could we still use the MyQ HomeKit Gateway? Yes - we still could. Would it still work? Sure - after you get through the initial setup. Is it recommended? No - considering the outsized price tag and limited benefits (or support).
Can the homekit integration lockout remotes?
Nope. It has exactly two capabilities: opening the door and closing the door.
