Not natively. It has a beeper built in, but if you’re connected to something with a Ratgdo, you get the obstructions status on that and could either use the dry contact output for it or have Home Assistant trigger the light.
Someone handy could probably rig something off the beeper if they wanted to crack open the unit.
But @rohankapoorcom is correct - using ratgdo’s obstruction status would be the better way.
Why does no one ever mention Konnected?
Hear hear. I’m using one and really like it. I especially like that it uses a laser to detect the door state, so I didn’t need to connect any new wired sensors.
Someone did, in the other blog thread about MyQ recently.
For the purpose of cutting ties from MyQ cloud, with a Security+ 2.0 opener, my take is that the Konnected setup is rather complex (than, say, ratgdo) and more expensive (than, say, ratgdo).
But yes, Konnected would work for sure, and less DIY-ish.
As I understand it, Konnected is for interfacing a previously-wired security system with a home automation platform like HAss or Hubitat.
I haven’t seen anyone suggest it as a solution (ever, really) for interfacing a garage door. If you don’t already have it, what does it bring that the relay-soldered-to-pushbutton approach doesn’t?
Look here:
Someone was probably me.
That has the exact same constraints and less functionality than Tailwind (Tailwind also gives you a dedicated app if you don’t want to interface with another system, or prefer to have the backup) for about the same price.
It also requires the same soldering to a button (for MyQ) that any of the other options do.
Since you’re going to the effort of soldering, and you have to integrate with a dedicated home automation platform, it makes little sense to pay that price for the Konnected option when you can get a dry contact relay and a tilt sensor for half the price.
You should look more closely or don’t and remain hostile, I don’t really care. I have no affiliation, I just like them.
Konnected is ESP based and can be flashed to be completely local (firmware offered by Konnected themselves to integrate directly into ESPHome) or you can keep in Konnected’s ecosystem. It requires no soldering and has the advantage of laser distance measuring to see the garage as open or closed.
To connect to a MyQ opener, yes it does. It doesn’t talk Security+ – they specifically say those openers are incompatible, so you have to use the soldering hack.
With regards to the rest of it… that wasn’t hostility. That was merely pointing out it’s an expensive solution for half of what you get. I based what I wrote on what they had on the product page. Sorry if I didn’t spend hours researching something that doesn’t do half of what cheaper alternatives do.
It basically does, they just give you a link to a pre-soldered solution at extra cost. Meross will send you the same for free.
I don’t see that as any real advantage over reed switch. It’s still a piece of hw to mount and wire.
Konnected looks like a fine product. For a non-chamberlain/non-security+ door it makes sense.
But in this context, Chamberlain gdo’s, ratgdo offers so much more functionality than any other solution (light control, discreet open and close, obstruction status, door position without sensors), it doesn’t make sense to do anything else IMO.
The only thing missing from ratgdo is audio/visual alert. With luck, that may be coming if they can get the TTC signalling worked out. If it doesn’t then sirens are cheap to add. Personally, I was glad to see the alert delay eliminated.
If it weren’t for my distaste of Chamberlain after this fiasco, I would probably replace my non-Chamberlain openers just to get the full ratgdo functionality.
I see this on the web page you provided.
Ah I see, ya I won’t have anything Chamberlain and don’t have Security+ in my home so there’s my confusion on your comment.
They use screw clamp connectors, I didn’t have to solder anything for my non Security+ doors.
Does LiftMaster MyQ Home Bridge
Item #: 819LMB still work with home assistant?
Yes. Only worry as an already discontinued product is continued support from Chamberlain.
They have stated it will continue to be supported, but some don’t trust that statement.
Ratgdo offers more functionality for Security+ doors.
It seems the tweet about upcoming native Homekit support for MyQ was deleted. What did it say?
I soldered in to the button on the LiftMaster switch and connected it to the Aladdin Connect. This was super easy and bypassed the security 2.0 crap. I picked up the Aladdin Connect at Home Depot for $50.
I am very impressed that Ratgdo is able to interface with garage door openers with Security+2.0 like Chamberlain and Liftmaster.
But the real long-term solution is to ditch these proprietary appliances all together.
What is the best option for a garage door opener for new construction? I would prefer to not give my money to Chamberlain/Liftmaster…Obviously I want to automate it with HA.
I’ve been curious of the same thing for whenever I have to replace mine. I have a LiftMaster, but it’s pre-2011 so the button is just a simple dry contact, not the rolling code version their new interior buttons have. I have it all automated with HA using a relay, several sensors, and a z-wave switch.
Ironically, I started doing that because I used to have the original MyQ system and twice it failed on me and it failed in the OPEN position. Chamberlain was not concerned. But I have a lot of money in motorcycles, vehicles, and tools in my garage.
Chamberlain is awful.
