Tube's ZB Coordinators and Routers (was Zigbee router on steroids?)

Nice Chris, hopefully, Tube will get new inventory soon

I am wondering why buy routers? If you have enough powered devices, like bulbs and switches, shouldn’t they function as routers and negate the need for purpose-built routers? My mesh has significantly more powered devices than battery sensors (GLEDOPTO pro (zigbee v3) for the most part). Is it only useful if you don’t have many powered devices?

Good question. It was a bit of an impulse buy… at the time I hadn’t yet purchased the sensors so it wasn’t clear to me what my capacity need was and how well the coordinator would reach the edges of the house. I still may need both Routers in the future… one to get better reach into the garage and the other might extend into the back yard. And with Tube’s completely reasonable pricing, I wanted to get a jump on that path now.

These modules rock, and had been out of stock for a long time, originally wasn’t getting them in until August.

Great, can’t wait to receive mine! I’ve been quite unhappy with my Sonoff ZB Bridge, and the Conbee II I had before that didn’t work very well from the server in our basement. Looking forward to hopefully finally getting a stable Zigbee network with your coordinator. :slightly_smiling_face:

It’s packed and ready to go. hoping my post man picks it up (had a pickup scheduled for 1, but now 4 packages are outside  ) if not I will drop at the post office this evening. Be patient international shipments seem to be averaging around 10 - 30 days :frowning: depending on where it’s going. Looking at some history last shipment to your country took 26 days for example.

How does the EFR32 compare to the 2652P2?

for ZHA I’d say the “Pro” EFR32 module is better than the CC2652, and is well supported with Bellows. The Series 2 EFR32 and the CC2652 are closer in comparison.

If you want flexibility to switch to Z2M the CC2652 is probably the best choice. even with ZHA support is very good thanks to the work puddy has put into zigpy-znp. where as I know Z2M supports EFR32/EZSP radios now I have not tested it and don’t know how well it is working.

This is awesome. I have been using a sonoff wifi bridge for a while and am looking to upgrade for stability and to eliminate the ikea battery drain issue with it.

Would there be any performance difference if I got the USB version compared to the ethernet one? I would guess not since they have the same base chip. If there is no difference, I will definitely be patiently waiting for stock on it. But great job with these! Hopefully they will work well for me.

Not really, it’s the same device. I’ll be frank that when I get more modules the USB Coordinator version will be my lowest priority - there are a bunch of other USB based devices out there so I will focus on the ethernet connected device including the PoE versions.

Just placed an order. No idea what i’m doing

My intent is to purchase my first Zigbee device soon, a door lock and maybe a few motion sensor lights, or do people use separate sensors to have nicer lights typically? Just a few hallway ones that we don’t use much.

I think the answer is both… just depends on your preferences and needs. FWIW, i was in your shoes a few months ago, but setup of the coordinator with Home Assistant was a breeze and my zigbee network has been rock solid (Currently about 6 Hue bulbs and 30 sensors from Aqara.)

when will tubez be available to purchase? want one…

Next week.

Tube, I could have sworn you had a version that supported both usb and ethernet connectivity but can’t find anything definitive in this thread or on your store front. Did I dream this or can you let me know what model supports both options…and when/if it will be available?

Thanks

This one maybe?

Yes the efr32 versions come with serial converter and can switch to serial via a jumper change.

The efr32 modules are 2x the price of the cc2652 so added this to help justify the premium prices for those.

Ahh.I thought it was on the CC2652 that I saw it. I’m hesitant on the efr32 for a couple of reasons. Cost is a factor but mainly because of the issues I ran into with my Nortek stick that also used EZSP based firmware. Have you tried this model in conjunction with the Lutron Aurora dimmers (button presses specifically) for instance?

I run an efr32 on my prod and Aurora’s with the latest firmware do not send all messages (earlier fw versions did)

I believe they send them to a specific group. A recent or to zha allow creating groups with a specific I’d, so it’s feasible this could allow creating the group the Aurora is using and joining the coordinator to it.

I tried testing one with a cc2652 but I think due to interference could not get it to join successfully in limited tries. I do want to try that again, but am away this week.

I bind my Auroras directly to lights, though I am frustrated with the performance to be honest. Often takes several button pushes to wake and toggle a light. Sometimes it works on a single tap other times it’s takes 5-6 taps. Even when the fw sent events I remember them being very sporadic.

Interesting…I had the same issues with the Nortek (as you know  ) but the Conbee2 has been rock solid for me. Please let me know how the testing with the CC2652 goes.
