Tuya TS0601 - Moes HY368 TRV - Best Practices - Summary Thread

Hey to Everybody,

this thread aims to collect Best Practices and Solutions for

Tuya TS0601 - Moes HY368 TRV
Link to Zigbee Devices
other white label versions according to ZigBee HP:
Moes HY369RT, SHOJZJ 378RT, Silvercrest TVR01, Immax 07732B, Evolveo Heat M30

You are welcome to share your own experiences and questions!

At the moment I am using five of these in my second heating season with HA. So I am still experimenting to tweak them to their best. (not yet there).

There are tons of threads scattered all over the internet - but no central place to collect things and ideas.

Hoping for many people to join - i will try to summarize posts from time to time. Do not know how long my own posts are editable though.

Valve still heating / letting hot water through even though its closed

Little grey plastic ring
Out of the box the TRVs come with a grey plastic ring, that has to be removed for most valves. Check if you removed the ring when you installed the TRV on the radiator - its possible to mount the TRV with the grey ring, but then the valve can´t be closed
Found here

Maybe rerun adaptation of the TRV
This is function “Ad” when setting up the TRV.

Putting a small coin in between actuator and valve pin
Some people had success by adding a small coin (and some grease) in between
Found here
If this is not working, than:

Setting Valve Seal Type to “hard” in Advanced Settings on TRV
There is an option in the Advanced Settings of the TRV
Can be set to:
0: Soft Seal
1: Hard Seal
Video on youtube to set hard seal
Presumably puts more strain on the components

TRV doesn´t stop heating although its already warmer than set

Happened to me -
Automation need to set Mode of the TRV to AUTO not on HEAT.

HEAT forces the TRV to be fully open - no matter of the set temperature

TRV is not letting water through / is not heating despite Valve Position Open / at 25%

Happened to me - solution / Workaround for the moment:

When TRV position is set to 25% then slightly loosen the big grey mounting screw until there is water flowing. Check if the TRV still seals the valve right when back on 0% / closed.

Not sure if I will stay with this - maybe cutting of 2mm of the grey ring that was delivered with the TRV …

Advanced TRV settings: Control type of valve

In Advanced Options of the TRV you can choose between three “control types” : 0 PID, 1 FLOAT, 3 ON/OFF.

They greatly change the behavior of the TRV.

Still very unclear - experience needed - What are you using?

At last edit I was 5 days into experimenting with the PID control type and collecting experience, so I will update this section more often.

0: PID

What is a PID?

Generally speaking a PID Controller is a mathematical calculation, that tries to calculate changes in the past into future changes and switches Heating accordingly. Normally you can change the PID parameters to adapt to your specific conditions (e.g. heat loss, heating power, heat preserved in the radiator once hot). Sadly the PID parameters are factory set and not accessible.

Additional info: What is an PID?

(my experience with PIDs comes from tinkering a PID to my espresso machine)

Pro:
Valves do open and close in 5%-steps.

  • at the moment i am set at 18,5° C for a target temp of 20,5° (Reason behind probably the pre-programmed PID parameters, that are meant for a standard (asian?) room, that is loosing heat very fast (my thinking at the moment))
  • once the TRV has decided to open to a position (lets say 50%) it seems to close only in steps of 5% but only every few minutes. This sometimes produces overheating (at least in my room).
  • if windows open detection is running and for example a window open temp is set, that is way lower than usual comfort temp, then closing the window and going back to comfort temp (e.g. 18,5°->14°->18,5°) makes the valves open quite a bit → regardless of actual temp → overheating

1: FLOAT

Did not test this out yet myself - scarce information available

2: On/Off

Seems to work fine - Despite the name, this setting is more than on/off - Stepping is done in steps of 25%, not 5% with the PID setting - Probably the TRV has set valve position linked to temp difference between set and curren temp.

In case your TRV-Valve-combination does not let water through at 25% this control type won´t open more. I will just wait for hours It won´t open the valve any more, when there is no heat coming though. It will do so, when the current temp is much lower that the set temp.

@flixx (See his post) has lower temp invariances with this setting instead of PID

Is there a way to set valve position directly?

I did not find a way to set the valve position directly. (it would be great though - then all the logic could be programmed in HA)

But user @gavlexx may have found a way. See his post here on HAC. He replaced the NTC (temperature probe) with a fixed resistor.

Not confirmed.

ZHA or ZigBee?

Many people seem to have moved from ZHA to ZigBee with these TRVs. Better support and no need of custom quirks

Advanced TRV settings: Heating Start/Stop Hysteresis
Hysteresis delays the reaction.

You can set the Hysteresis from 0.5°-1.5°
From the factory it is set to 1°. → will always heat until +1°
Most people recommend to set it to 0.5°
