UK "smart" energy meters

You don’t need the hardware as they poll directly from DCC - install the Bright App and you supply your Postcode/CAD GUID and that should match you with your smart meter data.

Exactly this - my supplier is EON but it doesn’t matter, as the data is available via DCC

That being said, and as I’ve mentioned before. Your equipment needs to be on firmware that supports the ‘dcc_other’ user if it isn’t you won’t be able to get the data via this method. You will need to go through your supplier to get them to upgrade the firmware which may be challenging.

In my case, I only got the GAS data and had to raise a technical request to update the F/W on my electric meter.

Just thought I’d chip in here and say that I’m with ‘Outfox the Market’ and this integration works great for me. Thanks chaps.

Same here, but overall it should be devoid of the supplier. So long as the meter is supplying the data to DCC any supplier will work. Ultimately comes down to the F/W available on the device.

I still cannot get that bright addon in HACS working :S in my case it is looking for their device, cannot use it with only account…

The Bright app is asking for 16 digit code which I can’t find on the chameleon smart meter.

Hello Stepea,

Provided it’s the IHD6 this should help but the others should be in the same ballpark. The 16 digit code you’re looking for is the GUID.

For the IHD6 Press the screen in the bottom right of the screen which looks like a tile of 6 squares.

The press the screen where it states “IHD info”.

This should then display your GUID and Software version of your IHD.

Thanks for your help. Looking at it again it’s IHD2. Guess there is no way to use this data.

There should be, I’ve googled the IHD2 which apparently has the same appearance as the IHD3.

If you look at the bottom of the device both GUID and MAC addresses are printed on the bottom… as mentioned the GUID is the 16 digit code you’re being asked for.

Had a look there is no 16 digit code, only 10 digit.

Okay, so that sounds like the MAC. Have you tried investigating all the options on the device? Are you able to supply any pictures to try to help a little more?

I’ve got a couple of photos not the greatest quality so not sure if they are any use but does show the type of smart meter.

why not plugging all your electricity to one of those ~£20

or even this one, much better, can set up max load e.g. 20A, so it can be used i/o regular breakers? also can calculate exact cost day/week/month in SmartLife app, and SmartLife can be operated from HA. Cost ~£20

I have one of these or my garage and I find them flaky as hell. Sometimes after the power had stripped it was a nightmare to get it up and running again. even pressing the button didn’t work

That’s a Chameleon IHD, you should be able to find the IHD number if you explore the info button (I assume). I have the V3 Chameleon unit and I can find it on there.

The smart meter is a IHD2 - pressing the info button gives me electricity meter reading and electricity meter serial number which is only 10 digits.

There will absolutely be some function to display the GUID, just so you know this won’t be a “code” per se. It’s an Id and will include alphanumerics and will look something similar to 1A-B2-C3-45-67-89-90-01.

Have you been through all the screens this device has to offer, if you can see the MPAN and MPRN numbers you shouldn’t be too far away from the device GUID/Software version information?

Think I’ve found it but only by switching it on and off - along with the welcome message it comes up with the mac address. I guess I can use this through the bright app.
