Just updated Apple TV 4k Gen 3 to tvOS 17 and as usual it got disconnected from official HA integration, requireing to be re-paired. Using 2023.10.1. And here is the problem; starting reconfiguration process from HA does not result in Apple TV displaying pairing PINs. Anyone experienced something similar? Any solution how to get these codes?
Check that AirPlay access settings is set up everyone on the same network.
Interesting… It was set to Everyone previously, but after OS update was changed to Anyone on the same network…
Changing it to Everyone helped! Thanks a lot Pierre!
Yeah, Apple tend to change that on updates for some reason.
@mirekmal Curious - If you restart your Apple TV (not sleep, but actual restart), does it stay connected to HA? Mine pairs whether it is set to Everyone or Anyone on the same network. But with both settings, when I restart I am forced to reconfigure. A few others have reported the same issue.
Interesting… usually I do not restart my Apple TV, but just for cusriosity I made and experiment and restarted it. So strange result… it did not disappeared from, but I’m not able to control it from HA. I’ve got system notificaion that device require reconfiguration and I had to go through the process again. So exactly the same problem you mentioned…
EDIT: I tried to reconfigure, but again I was not getting pairing PINs… despite ATV being set to accept Everyone (not changed after restart). I tried multiple times to start the process, but no PIN… Finally I restarted HA and no more prompts for reconfiguration and ATV works from HA just fine… No sure where th eproblem is…
OMG! For the longest time. A couple of years now, I was never able to repair my apple tv again. I would try every so often to repair. It says it successfully paired but the integration icon never appears in the integration page. Set it to everyone worked.
Thanks for testing that out, @mirekmal! I submitted an issue for the integration a few weeks ago. Hopefully it gets fixed soon!
Hi All, I have something odd going on with the HA Apple TV integration also, it’s a 4k gen 3 on tvOS 17. The HA integration doesn’t stay connected. Tried clicking the dialog in the devices page and reconnecting by entering the PINs again, but it would disconnect a few hours later. Also tried deleting the HA integration and letting it auto discover again. Finally manually added it via IP address. So far it appears to be much more stable.
Edit: Unfortunately, the integration started disconnecting after a few hours passed. Found that this particular Apple TV appears to be bouncing back and forth between ethernet and Wifi. Deleted the WiFi profile and will report here if this works or not.
More Info:
Checked in the firewall (Unifi Dream Machine Pro) and found it was connecting to WiFi even though it has good ethernet. This explains the integration disconnecting as the WiFi IP address is different than Ethernet. Same subnet but different IP.
Not sure why it’s doing this, have four Apple TV’s and none of them connect to WiFi. This is the only 4k gen 3, one is a 4k gen 1 (also tvOS 17) and the other two are HD’s. The other three all stay connected to ethernet. In the UNA interface, I blocked the 4k gen 3 (it still connects via WiFi but has no network connectivity) and so far the integration appears to stay connected. Well, it looks like it still tries WiFi but immediately goes back to ethernet fast enough that the HA integration doesn’t report it disconnected in the UI.
As you can see in the HA logs, it goes from Unknown to Standby in the same second. So it’s was still bouncing but came back very quickly. Prior to this it would stay unknown for quite some time.
I also had issues with this Apple TV and the HA HomeKit integration. Might have been due to this bouncing issue too. Moved the HomeKit hub to an HD on tvOS 16 and it works fine.
Had zero issues with this Apple TV and tvOS 16. It worked perfectly as a HomeKit hub and the HA Apple TV integration did too. I’m running Pi-Hole, so maybe it’s bouncing due to some sites being blocked in DNS?
Unplugged the ethernet cable from the Apple TV so it allowed me to edit the WiFi config. Deleted the WiFi config so it only has ethernet for network connectivity. I’ll report back if this resolves the integration disconnecting issues.
I am having the same issue not being able to pair an Apple TV to HA. I have 2 HomePod minis connected the the Apple TV integration and they work fine.
I have tried completely resetting the Apple TV (4K gen3 running 17.3), removing all the devices in the Apple TV integration, setting new static IP addresses and adding the device. When I add the device, it appears to work. I am prompted with PIN numbers on the screen and am told the it reauthenticated but it never shows in the integration. I have checked and confirmed the airplay is set to everyone.
Any ideas on how I can get it added would be appreciated as I’ve got quite a few automations I want to achieve. That is why I bought the Apple TV.
I am having the same issues everyone is reporting here. I have my Apple TV set to everyone and it still won’t fully pair. It says it completed the pairing but it isn’t anywhere in my HA instance.
I found that I had inadvertently dismissed the notification when the Apple TV was first discovered. I had to go in to settings > integrations in the filter menu select “show ignored integrations” and then I was able to add the integration for the Apple TV. I hope that helps you resolve the issue.
Not sure if that is after a update or not, HA 2024.03.03, IOS 17.4… but 2 apple TVs stopped reporting, I removed them and now not able to add. “No devices found on the network.” dont see in list and cannot add by IP. can ping the IP , eg tv 192.168.100.211, ha 192.168.100.111… on the same subnet, on the same dumb switch … has anyone also had that ?
This worked for me. Thanks!
Same problem here. I can not add them. Were you able to solve it?
No. Still struggle without it . it was so great for a couple of years, then it just stopped updating player stat(but at the same it was not unavailable) I decided to delete it and re add again. Here you go still no luck mate.
Exactly the same behavior here. Changed AirPlay access to everyone and also everyone on the same network. No effect at all.
Thanks! That worked for me
Thank you
I’m having the problem where my 3 Apple TV’s are added to HA, I confirmed that Everyone access in Airplay and I’m able to create the remote and media player cards for my dashboard. I cannot for the life of me get any automations to work I.e. hit pause on the Apple TV and the lights go on. I’ve downloaded blueprints for this, did the “create automation” from the Apple TV device and nothing. My automations all work on everything else accept the Apple TV.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
