UniFi Protect Application 4.0.21 added the ability to display custom animations on Doorbell Pro devices. It’s seems to be fully supported in the UniFi Protect application, but not in the Home Assistant UniFi Protect integration. It seems the proper way to do this is to add an image entity that can be updated manually and/or via automations.
I would love to see this feature. I tried request it at the Github page, but it was closed immediately.
Right…because it’s a feature request, not a bug. They expect users to put them here only to go ignored for years unless the same person who requests the feature also has the coding skills to implement it. You can see that mindset in @mib1185’s reply.
This kind of thing would have possibly gotten attention when they used to do the month of WTH, but I don’t think that’s a thing anymore.
Yea, I hoped to draw their attention bevaar this feature request is indeed probably gonna be ignored. I hope it willl get Some upvotes in the future so it will be implemented.
This is nothing about mindset, it is just a clear rule which is stated in multiple places - like on the create new issue page and the issue template itself:
But yes, we had a discussion lately, that this is not always the optimal solution and even not user friendly, especial for small “enhancement requests”. This topic is still in discussion, so please be patient, thx
I’m saying it’s a mindset that is reflected in the current rules like what you screenshotted. Clearly using the same system for bugs and feature requests would bog down one and unnecessarily complicate the other. But it’s encouraging to hear the team is considering how to be more responsive to what often seems to be less complicated requests - at least to non-coders. Thank you.
I do think it’s worth exploring the idea of characterizing some requests as missing features especially for requests (like this one) where a company adds new functionality to a device that is not captured in the current integration. It seems closing that gap should be a little higher priority.
Also, the primary reason I think the current upvote/downvote FR system is ineffective is that integration users are not prompted to periodically review the open requests for consideration so it’s biased toward those who care very strongly instead of striving to include those who don’t know what they don’t know. Again, using this one as an example, many people probably don’t even know Ubiquiti added this capability so they wouldn’t know it’s possible in HA either. A 1-2 line summary presented in the HA UI could be one way to bring some requests forward for broader consideration and prioritization. My $0.02!
