Using Card Modder to show entities red or green depending on state?

I’ve installed Card Modder and Card Tools and I was wondering if there is a guide to how to dynamically adjust entities depending on (for example) open doors could have colour ‘red’ if it’s night. Or if the alarm is armed, the triggering entity could also go red.
Or can entities be hidden if they’re not really of interest UNLESS they’re open?

Just wondering if these more simple tasks are within my grasp!
