Vaillant/MultiMATIC integration

I have VR920 module together with multiMatic 700. Seems right from the multimatic all the component are accessible. Issue seems to be integration with HA.

Multimatic 1.7.0
Home Assistant OS 6.1
supervisor-2021.06.8
core-2021.7.2
HACS 1.13.2

@kalatos i’ve the same setup and it works fine. only the WiFi of my VR920 is not working well ( can’t get it to pair/execute myvaillant setup ) so i have to use LAN instead. what’s your issue?

Thanks for prompt answer. In fact issue has been solved. For some reasons I have the duplicated entities for multimatic integration because when I have configured it initially I provided also serial number which is not required if you have only one Vaillant gate in your LAN. Here is the reference to Gitlab: Issue with stability of the connection ¡ Issue #81 ¡ thomasgermain/vaillant-component ¡ GitHub

I reconfigured whole integration without providing serial number and now integration is stable.
Hope above will be helpful for somebody else.

Lukasz

MultimacApp is sheduled for replacement in 2022 as per Vaillant. So this takes a while.

Anyone have experience with the ebus coupler ?

just saw that there is a HA integration but not sure if this is working
Anyone having any experience: ebusd - Home Assistant

Sorry i din not read all the 245 post in the tread, but i have a question. I have a heater Vaillant CW5 ecoTEC plus. Still with conventional radiator valves. i would like to change these to smart valves so i can heat every room independently. Is this possible with your solution? How is you setup?

Hello,

This what I have:

  • floor heating on ground floor
  • 4 rooms heated independently ( 3 bedrooms and a bathroom)

And my “hardware”:

  • ecoTEC pro VC 246/5-3 E
  • VR920
  • VRC700
  • VR70
  • Ambisense (vavle is VR50). It requires VR920 (and it also requires VR70 in my case because of floor heating).

Hi, this sound promising, not cheap, but workable. I would only need the VR920 and 12x VR50. In total 1000,- EUR. Unfortunately i can really find them second hand.

I don’t think you can add 12 VR50, I know there is a limitation about the VR50, but I can’t remember how many. And yes, it becomes quite expensive with 12

At their website it says: max 6 radiators per room and in total max 20. So it should fit.

Question do you need a VRC700 in the setup? I think i would not one. Just the valves and the VR920 an that’s it.

I think you need it (see ambiSENSE | Smart TRV | Vaillant UK or ambiSENSE | Smart Thermostatic Radiator Valve | Vaillant UK). VRC7XX determine which mobile app you will be using (VRC700 is multimatic and VRC720 is sensoAPP) and you need the mobile app to control ambisense

Ok, so you need the VR920 to talk to the boiler via the eBus. And you need the VRC700 to talk to the VR920? And the app / HA will talk to the VRC700?
Would it be possible yo connect Ziggbee TRV’s? I have a local Tuya instalation on my HA. I think that this would help cutting cost.

Yes, so VR920 is actually talking with ambisense stuff (via RF) and with the boiler via ebus. The boiler is talking with the VRC700.

The mobile app (or HA) is talking to the vaillant API (so over the internet, just to be clear). The vaillant API is talking to the VR920.

So maybe you can use some tuya valve but it sounds really complicated to me(tuya valves → HA → vaillant API). Even if you can reach vaillant API, I don’t think you will be able to do what you want, since from vaillant point of view, you don’t have any room (=ambisense).
Also, if “your internet” or HA or vaillant API goes down, you can’t heat anymore, which I think could be really annoying.

@tgermain, thanks for your advice! Would you consider an OpenTherm solution with tuya valves?

I think you will need a VR33 (ebus to opentherm) in order to be compliant. I had a look ~3 years ago, I was looking at including honeywell evohome with my vaillant boiler (which is opentherm) and I remember I found some posts about people doing that also and it worked. (But just before installing my boiler, vaillant released ambisense. Since the price was almost the same, I choose the easiest one for me, which was ambisense)

@tgermain , thanks. Do you remember any of these posts? i find it hard to find any threads on this topic. So the setup would be VR33 instead of VR920 and any smart thermostat which will talk to the VR33, right?

Yes, it should do the trick, you can seach for “vr33 honeywell evohome” in google do have some results. I remember there was lots of results in dutch. I also remember it was quite complicated for me because I have 2 heating circuits; one for the floor heating and another for the ambisense rooms (and this heating circuit is split up to 4 circuits - one per room).

Anyway, you will still need the VRC700, to configure some parameters like heating curves.

@tgermain , thanks again! i will see how far i can get. If not i know how the full Vaillant setup needs to be.

@tgermain , one more question do you use the outside thermometer in your setup? A VRC 693 for example?
