Vimar View

Question (1st post): Hello everybody, has anybody found a soluzion to connect Vimar View products to HA?

Answer:
Hello, if with Vimar View you mean the IoT series from Vimar (IoT Vimar) the solution is getting a Vimar Gateway like this one and configure it as per manufacturer instruction.
Then you can integrate it using the integration Homekit Device.

Configure the device using Vimar View Wireless App, manufacturer have instructions.
Install Homekit device and you will see the device and entities in your installation.

Pay attention some device in BLE mode will report only 1 entity like switch (ON/OFF) not other entities for configuration, there is a long post thread about the integration process, issues and solutions.

Hi @AutoDIY,

so you just need to integrate the gateway directly with the homekit device? What do you need to do that?
Don’t you need to change the different devices from BLE to Zigbee?
I read around and still feeling very lost.

Hello Giovanni,

I see you posted in several threads.
If you want to add it to a Zigbee network the gateway is useless, the gateway is bluetooth and WiFi no zigbee, infact inside is a ESP based, I believe ESP32 due to the fact it has BT and WiFi.

The devices from Vimar are usually factory set to bluetooth mode, you need the Vimar App to switch them to Zigbee.
Look at page 6-7-8 of the manual to have examples of possible setup.
As you see in the Bluetooth environment there is one or more gateways, in zigbee mode no Vimar gateway but a coordinator (Vimar uses Alexa but any coordinator should work).
You can even mix up the two modes, probably, but the “coordinator” will be dual:
1 for bluetooth: the Vimar gateway communicating to HA via WiFi and with device via bluetooth
1 for zigbee: any zigbee coordinator that is in your network

In any setup you would need the Vimar ViewWirelessApp to start setting up devices.
To use Vimar Apps you need to setup an account.

If you use your Vimar device in bluetooth mode you will need the gateway (this is an example, the hardware inside is quite always the same) from Vimar to integrate them in HA via HomeKit Device integration.

If you use Zigbee mode you don’t need a Vimar gateway but it is sufficient to use a zigbee coordinator within home assistant and an integration (e.g. ZHA).

Depends in which way you want to go.
Any solution you choose in my personal opinion basic device like lights, must be working even in case of disaster within HA, so I will always have physical wired or indipendent BLE switches.

The right procedure for Bluetooth and HomeKit device is:

  1. setup the whole system (relay switches, roller shutter etc…) using the Vimar ViewWireless app. Look at the Vimar website they have extensive manual and videos example of video.
  2. add the gateway only when everything is more or less all wired, and set up using ViewWireless App. Video tutorial for gateway setup.
Adding device aftwards is still usually possible.
  3. when the gateway is connected to your WLAN, Home Assistant will likely detect the device and show it up as newly discovered device, add it and you should see switches, you won’t see many other information.
I believe it is not possible to setup color of blinking LED etc… you will see just switches, ON/OFF lights, UP/Down etc.
For more advanced setup you still need ViewWireless App.

Sometimes to make the gateway gather all the devices a restart might be necessary, all your devices should be unpowered for a couple of minutes and powered back (just cut the mains for lights or for the whole house), in this way everything starts in a kind of “pairing” mode.

Some devices like power meter might not work properly or at all.

Pay attention Vimar has 2 apps View and ViewWireless , the first is for control via Vimar cloud the other is for setup.

If you go the ZigBee way, these are Zigbee devices as many others, so you should start them in pairing mode to add it to the zigbee network.
To get the devices in pairing mode it should be the same procedure as above, once you have switched the device to Zigbee, cut the power and restore it, the device should be in pairing mode ready to be added to zigbee network.

Sorry for the long post, I hope I could make it clear

Dear @AutoDIY,

many thanks for your precious support, finally I was able to gather more info.
I also had a call with the customer service this morning and provided excellent support.
Unfortunately there was no major reference to how easy it was connecting Vimar with Homekit, it’s indeed the easiest way.
Below what I did:

  1. I unplugged the Vimar gateway 14597
  2. Took note of the homekit code (on the side next to the QR code),
  3. In the integrations page on HA I looked for Homekit inside Apple brand
  4. Indicated the homekit code
  5. I found all the devices (no scenarios) in HA

I don’t know why Zigbee is the most popular way to integrate VimarView, I totally find it way more complex, especially if you don’t have a hub.

Thanks again, I hope that the above steps will be useful for other users too!
Ciao

Hi everybody

I don’t fully understand, whether or not I should buy a VIMAR gateway, if I want to use the VIMAR IoT devices in Zigbee mode. Do I have to buy a gateway to switch the devices from Bluetooth to Zigbee mode?

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any native VIMAR integration into Home Assistant. Maybe, if somebody from VIMAR itself, is reading this thread, could answer, if this might be an option for the future? I didn’t buy any VIMAR products yet, but I want to be sure that I can use them within Home Assistant before I spend a lot of money for nothing.

I would be thankful for any information regarding the integration of VIMAR products into Home Assistant.

Hello,

For zigbee vimar gateway is not needed :grinning:

You need the View Wireless app on your phone to switch each device to Zigbee.
Then you add to HA as regular zigbee device.

There is no integration for Vimar View Wireless, only Vimar-by-me but is for KNX devices something different.

You can use within HA the vimar devices but with some limitations, some devices as energy meter seems not to work properly.
The relay Vimar 03981 works as mentioned above
The Vimar 14593 should work fine
The Vimar 14592 switch works fine

Hope it helps you.

Happy it helped.
Just for sake of developers the integration HomeKit device is not Apple the developers are at the bottom of this page https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/homekit_controller/

Thanks to them!!! Give them a star on github.

Hello everyone
I don’t see the devices on home assistant.
I have the configuration with bluetooth via gateway.
I don’t have Homekit.
The devices are connected to google home via Vimar App.
Why don’t I see the gateway?

Hello @maurizio_zito,
welcome!

via Homekit you will see it.

Via Google home, I believe, you should integrate Google home, but I don’t know if it will work, I never tried and I don’t plan to do it.

This way has a cons, is not local, no internet access mean no control, as you are going through a Google Cloud service.

Homekit device is local push, so as far as your internal network is up you can control devices.

Vimar gateway is not directly integrated in HomeAssistant so you need some way around this; one way is Homekit device integration to be added in Homeassistant.
After adding Homekit device integration you can see the gateway and the devices will be controllable.

Homekit uses the code of Apple Homekit but you don’t need an Apple product to set it up.

I am unsure if having Google Home connected you will be able to connect to HA via Homekit, but just try, it might work.

Hope it helps.
