Hi everyone, I am doing a home remodel and would like to replace the ceiling fans in my bedrooms. The home is located about three miles from the shore, so the area has a natural breeze, and majority of homes do not have air conditioning. I was interested in keeping the ceiling fans but replacing with something I can control more smartly. I predict a majority of the time if it is used, it would be at very low speed, so being quiet would be important for me.
The only model I have looked at closely is Dreo CLF513s. I see that it has an integration with Home Assistant, so it can be controlled externally. And I imagine I would connect it to some sort of smart switch, like one for the light, and another dimmer where Home Assistant can get input on the dimmer percentage and translate that to one of the 4-6 available fan speeds.
Anyway, I wanted to ask the experts here on options for ceiling fan and feasibility of what I want to accomplish. I don’t want to go too overboard on expenses (like Fanimation), though.
If the fan will be controlled by wall switch, you might consider rather than buying a fan that is smart, just putting in a switch that is smart. I use the Kasa switch here: Amazon.com
It can be controlled with voice assistant (Alexa, Google), home automation system (HA, SmartThings, Apple Kit), via the Kasa/Tapo App, and via the wall control. You can control the light (if present) and the fan.
Might give you more options on fan price, aesthetic, noise level, etc.
I’ve always stuck to the standard 3-speed fans since you can find smart wall controls for those pretty easily. The GE Jasco Z-wave Fan Control has been my go-to device for these. I don’t install whatever remote fan control module that comes with the fan though - I’d prefer to have complete control through the smart wall control.
When you get into the DC fans, it gets a lot more complicated - at least that’s my experience.
