As long as I used Home Assistant I could choose what dashboard I would like to start with as ‘default’ per device.
For my PC/Tablet I do use the “defaut” Lovelace/overview.
homeassistant.local:8123/lovelace/overzicht
For my phones I use a mobile made dashboard (and all other frontends are mobile linked from there)
homeassistant.local:8123/m-lovelace/overzicht
In the past I could configure what dashboard to use for which device. So my phones I selected the default for mobile and PC/tablet the “normal” default.
As of a few weeks ago there came new dashboards in the menu, I also can not remove this dashboards in the settings here: homeassistant.local:8123/config/lovelace/dashboards
Can not “hide” them from the menu bar.
We now can set a default dashboard here but not anymore device specific.
I do not have one default, but multiple per device.
Is there any way to set the default dashboard per device again?
Everything is now Or desktop dashboard Or mobile dashboard
Edit: I use the same user login for my PC and my Phone, making more user accounts for every device is a no go.
You can hide most in the menu, but not the Default-User as you are logged in with
Click and hold on the top of the Menu, a popup where you can rearrange hide and unhide
And yes theres no such thing as a device-default anymore, there are system-default(set in Dashboards setting) and User-Default, set in User-profile
ok, are you asking me if it makes sense ? , You do know im not a part of HA’s Team, which also means i have no insight or insider information i could share
However, Im sure they have made some kind decision, based upon their current work-directions and future plans
Not sure why they shouldn’t, however Iphone and imac are devices, with a device-OS
HA is a server, serving(generating) a Web-Browser UI, either through their APP, or Optional Browser
I also hope they are having a plan and don’t work headless. It’s sometimes just not so easy to understand their roadmap or goals behind when such usefull and working features are gone.
Modern Websites are looking different based on the device or screen resolution, so that’s common since many years.
Im sure they are struggling with this in particular, imagine ANY websites you “Login” to, which ever where you can rearrange, make specified settings, colors etc. etc. etc., then you log out and go to another Device, you laptop or so, and you log in again on this website, with the same login name … would you expect it look the same, as the hard settings you just accomplished, or have you ever experienced that Your user-settings are different in any websites you log into on various devices ?
And this is also the direction they are heading, you can accomplish the same with the built-in dashboards , or if you can handle CSS, Grids, grid-layout and mediaquery
So apparently it sounds like you haven’t managed to accomplished that
Their New built-in Dashboards is made to “cover” this behavior, for those which can’t them self
Yeah if apple as the company that stole most of their innovations from bsd and linux added a nice gui to it enforce something we should all follow along.
The problem is, I believe there are a lot of people that don’t want the same exact information on their mobile display as is on their desktop web browser. I know I don’t, and losing the ability to set a per device default dashboard is quite annoying.
As you can see from some responses, there are people that seem to think that people like us that took the time to create nice looking custom dashboards for our devices that don’t have any unneeded content should redo the default dashboard for our use with undesirable complexity instead.
i understand your point, even when they last year started to “remodel” frontend, WEB-UI in general, it broke many “home-design” even mine
Try to stop “Development”, all Brands need to follow the “progress” security-vice" and “generation-vice” ( I wish they wouldn’t, and just leave it/make it the way i want )
Do i like the new look/features of i.e Default dashboards ? Nope, parts of “features” Yes
Can i control the future or “next generations” point of “View” … Nope
I thought it was just ment that this would be a workaround for a feature that some people were using and has now been removed.
There may be other workarounds with less effort existing, like devices specific dummy-users. I would like to compare this again with Apple, here you would need 2 Apple-IDs, one for your Mac and the other one for your iPhone.
The main question is still open, why does a working feature needs to be removed?
Since it is an (even small) effort for a developer to remove something, there should be a good reason to do so.
Maybe it’s not possible or not easy to have 3 levels where a default-dashboard can be assigned (system-wide, user-specific, device-specific), so they simply dropped the device-specific setting so that the other 2 could be implemented. But this is only my personal guessing since I don’t know it.
Maybe implementation of 3 levels would be easy, but handling would be difficult. If you can overrule the system setting both on user and device level, what shall have higher prio then if both overrule levels are being used?
The 2nd question would be, why was this breaking change not listed in the section of Backward-incompatile changes? At least I couldn’t find it there.
For me, the workaround with the dummy-user per device will be my favorite. Or is there any disadvantage I don’t see at the moment?
I simply don’t know where it was saved, I was never thinking about it.
I just found this message about the change in the release notes:
If you set your phone to one dashboard and your wall tablet to another, they’ll now both revert to the default dashboard. If you want your wall tablet to use a different dashboard than your other devices, we recommend giving it a separate user profile that you can customize however you want.
Its also not just one click away, I got older people on house that can not just use any menu of select things in settings.
And when selecting the default in the phone settings the “default default” gets removed.
Browser_Mod can maybe fix it, but so far this function is not working anymore.
The last Word in your “concern” is the Key to it all, you can
Example of my 2 dashboards, as you can see this can not be done with just one “default”.
“adapt”
i havent talked about 1 default, , but mediaquery, look up media query “adapt” and grid.area
