Hi guys!
My son is fighting osteosarcoma and I promised to get him a Minecraft-server on a NAS when we get home post-op.
I am on a limited budget but am thinking that I can something work with a RPI4b 8gb that I have if I get the following hardware:
https://www.amazon.se/gp/aw/d/B01MRN5ASA/ref=ox_sc_act_image_2?smid=ANU9KP01APNAG&psc=1
and
https://www.amazon.se/gp/aw/d/B011M8YACM/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=ANU9KP01APNAG&psc=1
And add this addon:
Hi to all,
I wish to share my last mod of the official samba addon. It is based on the last version (9.0) and allow to mount external ( USB,SD etc ) disk by partition label and share via samba.
It is a complete plugin replacement of the original ( same config works too ) plus some features:
Support to automount and autoshare disk by label ( Protection Mode must be turned off )
Support to expose Time Machine compatible devices ( you can use any share as TimeMachine target!)
Add mDNS for ZeroC…
Would that work?

I ran a minecraft server 8 plus years ago. Being java and single threaded it liked a high speed CPU.
I remember it on a Q6600 (quad core 2.4ghz) and it was poop compared to a higher clocked dual core. Once the cpu was overclocked it was miles better.
I suspect it would run (if there is an arm server build) but would be painfully slow.

Thanks!!
I will look at alternatives.
I’ve looked at some alternatives and it seems like I should build my own, would be a fun project with the kid if nothing else.
What gear would you guys get from Amazon? I could maybe stretch to 400 USD (is that even doable?).
