WTH are we missing some basics?

Don’t get me wrong, Home Assistant is really great.
But somehow we are missing very “basic” functionality like the following:

An easy way to create a cover entity from 2 switches.
Many homes have existing covers/blinds which you can open, close and tilt with just 2 switches (up/down).
It would be nice to have an easy way to configure this in the Home Assistant UI.

  • entity for moving it up
  • entity for moving it down
  • opening duration
  • closing duration
  • tilting duration

Another thing that’s missing is proper support for underfloor heating.
Usually you have a single water pump and an electric valve for each zone.
The interesting part: there’s a significant delay between turning on the valves/pump and the temperature increase.
This would need to be accounted for.

If we want to bring Home Assistant to the masses, things like the one’s mentioed above have to be easily configurable.
From my point of view, this should be a focus topic in 2025 :slightly_smiling_face:
