Many electricity gas and water providers have a variable charge for the stuff you consume, and a fixed charge per day, week, 28 days or calendar month
The settings for eg Grid Import energy (for example) are very well thought through and do an excellent job of the variable charge. Can we have a similar group of settings for the fixed charge just below?
Or something in the Energy Dashboard documentation that shows a handful of canonical recipies to help us do it (so each user doesn’t have to figure it out for themselves)
In many european countries at least, for example the UK, energy tariffs are split between a fixed daily cost and then on top of that a unit rate per kwh used. The fixed cost is to pay for connection to the energy grid. The rate is to pay for actual usage of the power you are pulling from the grid. So while electric meters will show the real time kwh being used by the appliances, there’s a static rate that will be charged once every 24hrs. There’s no provision on the energy dashboard for these fixed daily costs. It could even be a fixed monthy cost in some countries, or even a yearly cost.
Currently users have to rely on “fake” helper sensors for this, with complicated setup and formulars.
I suggest having what we have now, for the usage, but also adding a component for fixed daily costs (called standing charges in the UK) so that the energy dashboard would calculate the kwh used AND the fee charged daily, add both together and the amount the supplier charges should be exactly the same as what HA is calculating (or very close) at the end of each billing period.
