Yes, as far as I know the only way to do it is to run Scrypted as an addon but that feels a little heavy-handed (Scrypted itself being a home automation platform). AIUI some kind of addon is needed for video transcoding but it feels… unfortunate.
I run scrypted in a separate proxmox VM on the same machine, and it’s MUCH better than HA at this task. Highly recommend.
Unless I’m missing something, Scrypted unfortunately doesnt allow me to include homekit exclusive cameras, which HA does offer support for. Sure, I can just use them in the Home app directly (which is what I’m doing currently) but now I’m not able to see it anywhere BUT the home app.
