WTH? Suggestion: Editing Mode with Fixed Resolution for Dashboards

Hi everyone,

I really love the new interface for configuring dashboards in Home Assistant – it makes creating and customizing them much more intuitive. However, I have a suggestion that could be particularly helpful for those of us using wall-mounted tablets as displays:

It would be incredibly useful to have an editing mode on the PC where you can set a fixed screen resolution, e.g., 1920x1200. This mode could include a preview window to show exactly how the dashboard will look on the target device.

This would have several advantages:

  1. It ensures that all cards fit perfectly on the screen, avoiding any surprises later.

  2. It eliminates the annoying need to scroll on wall displays, which can be quite frustrating.

  3. It makes designing dashboards for specific devices much easier and more efficient.

I think this feature would be a great addition, especially now that more people are using tablets as dedicated wall displays. What do you think about this idea?

Thanks for reading, and wishing you all a Happy New Year!
Best regards,
Patrick

Most browsers have this feature already built in.

For example, Chrome has the “Inspect” tools that let you set a custom resolution or even select the resolution based on device type (i.e. iPad, Surface Pro, etc).

Here’s an explanation of how to do this in Chrome.

Here’s documentation on how to use similar tool in Firefox:

Yes, I didn’t find that in my search.
