Maybe I am alone, but for me the WTH has gone overboard. There are so many that most likely most will not even be followed up on.
I kindly and respectfully suggest to slow down on WTH posts.
While it would be nice to have some more thought in creating these idea posts, I don’t think slowing them down or stifling them is the right answer. The whole point is to give users that don’t have the skill to open GitHub issues or pull requests a chance to offer a suggestion for improvement.
Voting/commenting on the good ones brings the best to the surface - at least that is how I look at it.
I muted the whole category as I could not keep up (wnated to keep up)
I am one of those less sophisticated HA users and I enjoy checking new posts to see if I can learn something, but for me this has gotten out of control, but I will follow @vingerha ’ s suggestion and mute the category.
I will be over soon.
It runs for a month and then it is locked again until next time.
… agreed and the performance of the forums went overboard. Almost unusable today.
Edit: Not related to WTH according to Missy
I, too was wondering whether the performance problems with the site are due to being overwhelmed by WTHs.
This response to the WTH request says something very serious about the direction HA is going.
Apparently many users feel their concerns are not being addressed through other channels.
I don’t recall a WTH response like this ever before. Something is different this time.
It would behoove the amin and dev teams to figure out why.
I hope these aren’t simply all ignored. Maybe a “year of” to focus on FRs and WTHs?
Except that it takes another three months for everyone to realise that it’s over.
None of the WTH ideas will be implemented (not least because 80% of them are unworkable). Hell, there’s reasonable feature requests with dozens of votes that never get implemented. Smells like a PR exercise to me.
Edit: By the law of unintended consequences WTH will only serve to encourage those who think that “open” means “democratic” - and that tired old argument will be rehashed all over again.
Thanks for that tip!
Didn’t know this is possible.
Correction: what was intended to be implemented anyway, by all means will be implemented
Ha, my exact feelings xd
As explained in the WTH FAQ that is not the point. Even the post with the most votes is not be guaranteed to be implemented.
The devs are looking at every post and taking notes to get a feel for what is important to the community. What is working and what isn’t. Some good ideas may come of it and be implemented but there are no guarantees.
So if you have a pain point or a good idea you should let them know. This has changed things in the past (e.g. just using data:
instead of having to use data_template:
when you want to template something).
Just please, please, search first. Duplicates will be closed or merged.
Some might.
The most obvious issues that are somewhat easy to fix.
I made one about backups that I think will be implemented eventually, but that “idea” is just on the brink of being a bug too, so…
You’re a sensitive person!
There’s already a handful of PRs that are addressing WTHs. At this point, it’s already a success. I’m just ignoring the typical glass-half-empty people who come out of the woodwork for any announcement/event. I suggest you all do the same for the Month of WTH if you don’t want to participate. Disparaging it doesn’t help anyone.
Sorry can’t adjust this comment, it’s not directed at you @WallyR
There are three kinds of people. Glass half empty people, glass half full people… and people who say: This is not my glass. That’s my glass over there. The one with the cherries and the umbrella in it…
It is not about the content of the glass, but about the number of glasses. I don’t judge the quality of the WTH comments. My comment was only that the number of WTH posts made it , for me, annoying to check the large number of new posts. I am back to normal now that I muted the WTH, though this social WTH section is getting crowded as well…
There, removed the posts. It’s clear I upset you, that was not my intentions.
I was not negative at all, but just noted my concern about the number of new messages exploding and making it less attractive to review the new messages every morning. Someone’s suggestion to mute the WTH category resolved it for me. Glory to those who want to see all the WTH posts and easy on the eyes for those using the mute option.
I reviewed all the replies to my first post and, honestly, the only negativity was from you.
If you read the other posts, they are littered with people claiming WTH does nothing and there are “serious issues” with devleopment team. That is negativity regardless if you agree with it or not. Anyways, I removed the idiom, so lets move on.
You’re taking this personally when my original message was not directed at you. Keep in mind, you get notified if everyone replies in a thread, that doesn’t necessarily mean people are replying specifically to you.
