hi @jamesking
what are you able to do with the Locked connected to Home assistant
and what advice would you recommend this will be my first z-wave set up (so I need to orders a z-wave stick too)
I can unlock via the UI or automation (e.g., As device tracker determines I’m arriving home).
I can monitor lock status. (Locked/unlocked)
I have a nest doorbell so I can unlock the door on demand if I’m not in and someone rings the bell with a parcel.
I just used a cheap z wave stick and I now have several nodes and it’s working fine.
I did have some faff setting up the lock in the first place (some documented in this thread) but once I got it sorted it’s been great.
Same here. I sat on the fence for a LONG time about this device given the very poor Amazon reviews. However I couldn’t be happier with it. Easy to install and once you get the zwave module sorted its rock solid.
Are you able to tell who unlocked the door?
Yes, assuming it’s been unlocked with one of the RFID tags/cards/stickers. Not if it’s been done by z wave (e.g., through the HA GUI) or manually unlocked from the inside.
Locking the door is a manual process; so you can never tell who it is that did it.
That it, I’m getting off the fence ordered placed
do get in touch when it’s arrived and I’ll share some of my automations…
Got to love amazon prime.
Family is out for the afternoon so time to tinker.
Had a bit of a faff with the z-wave stick not starting the node service (had to edit the path in the config.entities file), once that was done it was plug and play.
So I’m up and running.
Anything you can share would be much appreciated.

Check the automations and template sensor here:
The automations are in a non-intuative order because I pasted them in from several different YAML files for you. Please do read my description below before diving into the YAML!
What it does, generally, is, when Katy or James arrive home it sends a notification to my phone and/or Katy’s offering the chance to unlock the door. This happens on my phone, whenever either of us arrive home (“Someone arrives at home”).
“Notify Door unlock” tells me on my phone when the doors been unlocked by any means.
“Notify Door Jammed” notifies my wife if the door lock is jammed when it’s been locked. This automation and probably some others need to use the template sensor which exposes the detailed lock status (eg, jammed or whoever opened it, rather than just “locked” or “unlocked”). I get the notification anyway because I get notified of all door lock/unlock events due to the above automation.
On my phone; if I get a notification that someone has returned home, I get options to lock (lockfrontdoor) or unlock the door (openfrontdoor). If I press “lock door” this will run the “lock door from notification” automation. This is a bit pointless as it’s hardly ever useful or possible to lock the door this way, as you have to physically twist the handle to lock the door.
On the other hand, “unlock door from notification” is very useful. This is available both to me on android and my wife on iOS - hence the two triggers for this automation.
On my wife’s iOS phone, rather than the opportunity to lock the door through the notification, she has an “ignore” button. This is because her GPS updates can be a bit flakey. When she presses “Ignore”, “Request Katy’s Location” runs. This pings her phone for another GPS update. This is useful because often when the device tracker thinks she’s home, she’s not really. So pressing ignore will update her location again (hopefully more successfully the second time around).
Finally… “Katy Arrives Home” gives her the notification with two actionable buttons - one to open the door and one to “ignore” the notifcation. The actionable buttons in notifications for iOS are set up separately and not included here but I could add that code in to my github if you’d like it.
Wow!
Thank you this is super helpful thank you for all your help.
hi @jamesking
how often does it update the battery status?
Edit:
Sorry I just noticed it does it when the door is used.
Looking into setting up html5 now
so i’ve had the z wave in for about 2 weeks and i love it
here is my lovelace set up
lock is reading 34% so it must be the new firmware. every happy
i have a script that i use on my phone (samsung remapped bixby) that when pressed unlocks my door which i press when pulling on my drive.
That’s great. What did you use to get the battery status in there?
Ah - a bit more research and I’ve found the zwave entity.
I find the battery level jumps up and down a few % but it’s good to see it’s not burning them out.
I have found that unless I stop and start the zwave network the battery status updates are very infrequent and not real-time.
For example it has been reading as 82% for the past week. I stopped and started the zwave network (via the zwave panel) and now it is reading the battery as 79%.
Have any of you guys had similar behaviour?
Find it changes when I restart home assistant
Yep it only seems to update battery when HASS restarts, but you can do a refresh node on it and then it’ll update
Hi, how did you find it ? I have a Connexis L1 and can;t find the battery attribute anywhere, I have tried:
states.lock.assa_abloy_yale_conexis_l1_sd_l1000_ch_locked.attributes
and there is no battery level in there
TIA
It is on the zwave entity and not the lock entity. It should be something like zwave.assa_abloy_yale_conexis_l1
