I haven’t seen this mentioned anywhere else, but my apologies if it has been.

TL:DR: Alexa App > Echo Device > Settings > General >AUX Audio > Switch to Line IN
If you (like me) have the Home Assistant Voice (Preview Edition), and you were immediately underwhelmed by the speaker, AND you have certain models of Amazon Echos…
You can change the 3.5mm Aux Output on the back of the Echo, to be a Aux Input.
Then you’ll be able to use your Amazon Echos (certain models) as speakers for your Voice (Preview Edition).
So far I can only confirm that this works with 3rd Generation Amazon Echo’s, but from what I’ve read, there are more models that can do this.
I’m pretty sure the 4th generation Echo can also do this, as well as the Echo Studio. But I can’t confirm.
Instructions:
-
Plug a 3.5mm cable into the Aux Out of the Voice (Preview Edition)
-
Plug the other end of the 3.5mm cable into the 3.5mm jack on the back of your Amazon Echo
-
Restart the Echo!!! (Alexa App > Device > Settings > General > Restart Device)
-
IMPORTANT: If you don’t follow steps 1, 2 & 3 BEFORE continuing, this will likely not work. The option for switching the device to Aux In doesn’t appear unless there is something plugged into the Aux port.
-
Go to your Amazon Alexa app, and click on the devices button (currently a lightbulb icon bottom left corner)
-
Click your Amazon Echo device that you’ve plugged Voice (Preview Edition) into
-
If you have a lot of devices, you can filter them by clicking on the “Device Type” drop down, choosing “Echo & Alexa” and then click “Apply”
-
Once the page for your Echo device is open, click on Settings icon (a gear icon, top right corner)
-
Scroll down to General
-
Find the option for AUX Audio and click on it
-
Choose Line In (Listen from an external source)
-
Enjoy a better speaker experience for your Voice (Preview Edition)
That’s it!
Worked right away for me.
