Does the osram hub support more than just lights?
Just wondering, is this the component you are using for the hub?

Yes that is the component I added, I made sure when I set it up I updated the firmware which supports local control then added the lights through the app. I assigned it a static IP in my router. According to the Osram App you can add lights, plugs, switches & sensors. Overnight all 3 lights are still working. I read last night that the HUSBZB could need a firmware upgrade but I have no idea how to do this. I am pretty sure the issues I have been having are with the HUSZB, nearly all of my lights are the Ecosmart brand from Home Depot but overnight I also lost an Osram Lightify RGB. I have two of these so it is not just the Ecosmart bulbs that are going offline
I actually just moved from the Osram hub to the HUSBZB, but Iām considering moving back.
I have 12 RGB Osram lights in total and 4 TAPT switches. The TAPTās had been on the HUSZB with no issues for a long time. The Osramās on the Osram hub were more stable than they are now, but I would tend to loose 1 or 2 lights a month. Now itās 2 or 3 a week.
Iām going to wait an see what the .93 release does and then migrate back. I didnāt love having the Osram hub on the network since I couldnāt turn off itās cloud access.
Can you not just stop the Osram Hub getting access outside your network from your router? I was also thinking about trying a Hue Bridge. I may pick one up and give it a try using it just for the Zigbee radio. I can always return it. So far though controlling the lights through the Osram Hub has been really quick, absolutely no lag whatsoever. I am convinced the issue is with the HUSBZB stick. Last night I lost one of my Osram RGB bulbs and had to reset it this morning. I know my bulbs are good because they were connected to my Wink Hub 2 for a year. Yes Wink was buggy as hell but the lights never disconnected from the hub
The only thing I have seen is that some of my plain warm lights are showing in HA as RGB but of course you cannot select a different colour. Not a massive issue, I just want stability and to get my wife back on board lol
Hue and Osram both talk to the cloud. Unfortunately for me, the Osram bulbs have been unstable on Wink, Osram and HUSBZB. They were the best on the Osram hub. I do have some Hue bulbs that I may try in place of a few Osrams, but Iāll have to set the Hue hub back up to unpair them first.
I could probably do various things to block internet access to Osram hub, but ultimatly I only want 1 Zigbee network. Iām already using the HUSBZB for Zwave and for the Zigbee TAPT switches.
Does anyone have experience with the stability of Hue vs. Osram bulbs?
Oh, and another Osram bulb is āunavailableā.
Iām following this because Iām considering leaving my Wink Hub2 as well.
Iāve ordered a HUSBZB-1 to try it.
I have a hue hub as well with hue bulbs only
My Wink Hub2 has GE Link, CREE, ecosmart and Sylvania bulbs paired to it.
I also have a SmartThings Hub v2 but no lights on it.
My hue hub (v2) has always been rock solid with never a bulb dropping.
I have lost at least one of each manufacturer bulb from the hub every 4-6 months with Wink, so if youāve never had a drop, Iād consider yourself lucky. GE link are the worstā¦
Seeing that I have 3 zigbee networks running so was hoping to pare things down with HA controlling directly on the stick but given comments I suppose Iāll do it in phases to test the waters.
The HUSBZB was very easy to setup and add lights, the problem is it just isnāt stable. The Z-Wave part has been rock solid. I hear the Conbee USB stick works very well but it isnāt available in the US or Canada. Apparently there is a V2 but I do not know when it will be available.
I just grabbed a Hue Bridge to see if I could add my bulbs but so far even though they are supposed to be compatible I havenāt got a single light to connect so for me at the moment the best solution looks to be the Osram Lightify Gateway
Iāve got a HUSBZB with five Osram lights and three SmartThings Zigbee buttons, and all have been solid for me thus far. You might just have a defective HUSBZB, or perhaps defective bulbs since youāve even had dropout problems with the Lightify Gateway.
I havenāt had any lights become unavailable on the Lightify Gateway, only with the HUSBZB
Sorry, guess I had you mixed up with @platupās post.
Iād still say it could just be a bad HUSBZB then.
I will add that Iāve been less than impressed with the Osram bulbs in general, just from my personal experience. I started my setup off last year on SmartThings, with a mix of Hue and Osram. The three Osram lights had pretty poor range and reliability where I originally put them, so I relocated them to a new location closer to the SmartThings hub I was using at the time. Since then, theyāve worked fine but I havenāt bought any additional ones and donāt plan to, while expanding my Hue setup to a total of 19 bulbs on the Hue bridge with rock-solid performance.
No Problems,
You could be right about the HUSBZB stick. I have 28 Ecosmart bulbs (Warm, Tuneable & RGB) from Home Depot and 2 Osram Lightify (RGB) I never had connection issues with any of them with my Wink Hub 2 just the horrible lag going through the Wink cloud. I am pretty sure the bulbs are OK.
The problem with the HUSBZB stick is that is really susceptible to CPU load or other IO loads. I upgraded to a dual Xeon, and made sure my disks never go to sleep and now itās rock solid. Unfortunately if you are running slower hardware, then people seem to have problems.
I recently tuned the recorder to it logs less volume to disk as well (I had a 2GB recorder db).
I think the advantage of an external hub, is that it canāt be impacted by the load on the HA computer.
Yeah, Iāve heard that issue/complaint as well. So far, I fortunately havenāt been bitten by any issues, other than an occasional slow response if Iām turning on/off all five bulbs I have paired to it at once. Iām running on a Pi 3, but Iāve also only got eight devices and not a ton of Hass.io add-ons so my CPU usage usually hangs out around the 5-7% range. But I fully expect to move to a more powerful computer once I add some more Zigbee devices to the mix.
I am running HA on an HP Elite 8200, i5 2500, 4GB RAM & 128GB SSD. I have Linux Mint installed. I will look into the power management settings and see what I can find
I changed my standby to disabled, and my advanced power management to off. I think you can check these values with hdparm for linux.
Couple questions: what channel is your WiFi on? We actively poll lights, so Iām surprised to hear you have them going unavailable. Do you have logs that contain delivery failures or timeouts? If theyāre going unavailable Iād expect to see these in your logs.
I have 2 networks in my house,
My main network which is an Asus Mesh is on Channel 11. I made sure it was as far away from the Zigbee channel as possible. This system is on the main floor of my home. I have a 2nd network just for my 4 WiFi security cameras, the router is in the basement and is on channel 6. Channel 1 is the most open in my house but I know that would overlap with Zigbee. When I had my Wink Hub 2 I never had issues with the lights going offline like this. I am not sure if you saw my earlier post but I have 3 lights connected to a Osram Lightify Gateway, I set this up on Monday as a test and so far havenāt had an issue.
Is there anyway the size of the home-assistant_v2.db could cause problems? I noticed mine was at over 3GB yesterday so I deleted it and restarted HA. I didnāt loose any lights over night where as the last few days have been really problematic. I am not sure if this is just a coincidence. I did read about some bad firmware with the HUSBZ1. I found a link to the firmware but do not know how to update it in Linux
I just had a look at the log but it shows nothing as I didnāt have any problems over night, it only logs from around 7:00 pm last night which was when I deleted the home-assistant_v2.db
Anyone have any luck getting IKEA Tradfri 5 button remote to work? There donāt appear to be any zha_eventās triggered. Based on what I could find, support isnāt there yet?
I might have made a mistake in assuming theyād be supported since theyāve been out for quite a whileā¦
Not supported yet. Very soon
Great to hear!
I was looking into Zigbee2MQTT which I initially avoided because of range concerns and not really wanting to use MQTT if there was something built-into HA. But I really like how they setup things so that anyone can add support for new devices without too much of a headache.
Iām a software developerā¦ is there any guide on doing the same with ZHA (for example if I were to copy it into a custom_component and add my own code)?
