Trying for the first time to setup a Zigbee group. Looks easy, but can’t control the Zigbee group from within Home Assistant.
After a bit of trying, I did some searches on the HA Community and ran across this:
Unfortunately, there was no resolution to that issue. Mine is very similar: just have two IKEA TREDANSEN motorized blinds. I’ve have them setup with a Home Assistant group for about a year, and that works. Either blind can be controlled up or down from Home Assistant, or the HA group can put them up or down.
Today I learned about Zigbee groups. One of the things that was mentioned was this allows one command to trigger multiple devices simultaneously. Less network traffic and more precision in the control of devices – that sounds good to me.
I went in and created a group in Zigbee2MQTT:
This all looks good. If I click on the state button of either blind in the bottom of the group configuration panel in Zigbee2MQTT, the selected blind dutifully opens or closes. Good deal.
If I look in the list of devices in HA, the new Zigbee group shows up there as expected:
Then I open up the “Dining room shades” object and see this:
So far, so good. Hey look, there’s an up-arrow in the controls section! ‘Click’… nothing. Nothing happens. Well, you would expect it to work, to send a command to Zigbee2MQTT, which would send out the appropriate command to the Zigbee group I setup, but it does zip. Nada.
I’m guessing I’ve missed a step. Just haven’t found much talk about this subject… and what little I did find had nothing helpful.
What does it take to get HA to run a command to a Zigbee group within Zigbee2MQTT?
