At the present time Zones must be circular in shape. It would be advantageous if Zones could be done in a freehand manner and an irregular shaped area could be drawn to define a Zone.
This would enable more accurate Zoning of most buildings, hospital precincts, lakes and similar. This would enable more functional automations.
I’ve thought about this as well.
You can use a workaround in Node red with the geofence node.
This will allow you to freehand draw zones and can with the call service device_tracker.see be used to set oddly shaped zones to device trackers.
I’ve been using the python script in the post above in Appdaemon since last year and has worked perfectly.
