Any progress on not being able to send pictures on notifications? I think it stopped working after the v63.
Thanks.
No, this is a problem with the app, so it requires a fix. So we can expect it when an update gets released (maybe).
I am not sure we will get an update as sadly this is how good projects die - due to developer burn out.
Well, there is a reason he isn’t active on the forums lately, and I understand completely. I myself have created a lovelace setup (called Homekit Infused, you might have seen it on these forums). I too have support channels like discord, slack, whatsapp etc. But the amount of questions and support people asked me for has gotten to me and thus I am taking it a bit slower now as well. Let this man work on his project in silence I’d say!
Unfortunately this is the way things go and unfortunately he will not be the last dev that faces this amount of questions etc. At one point I got over a thousand messages a day and I am not even a real developer! Imagine the amount of crap he gets on his plate every day! So I completely understand. People should have patience (which I know is hard for many). But that is the way it is.
I for one will not bother Robbie on this thread, I happen to know a few people that follow him closely and are happy to answer my questions which is absolutely fine for me. I sincerely hope that all of these questions (and slight negativity) in this thread will not discourage him to continue development.
Melodramatic much?
Robbie is rebuilding his computer as he can’t get the app to build due to x-code problems. It’s nothing more than that.
When the beta expired, you’d have thought the world was falling in… but then there was a new beta.
He tried to get out a patch for the 0.100.0 issue before that was released and it failed. It’s been exactly one week and then posts like yours with the world falling in again.
Just use the hack for now. Or use the released 1.5.1 I’m confident a fix will be forthcoming. Robbie has put too much work into this app to ‘lose interest’ now
David,
I’ve been using the app since the very first beta’s. I think you have as well.
Over that time you know the project has been up and down. But the concern is the downs are bigger than the ups for the past year or so. Clearly some burn out being a one-man-band with an app that is pretty complex to support due to how so many utilize it led to some burn out.
I also know a couple months ago Robbie had a post over the demands of this app and pulling back a bit. That was clearly another sign of burn out.
So it’s not melodrama. I am stating that all of this is on the back on one guy. One guy who this is supposed to be a hobby/fun but probably doesn’t feel like that any more.
As someone who also has developed and released FOSS I really feel for him. It is a black hole that few escape unless the project gets enough mass that it becomes on the backs of many so no single one feels too much pressure. But that’s a tough one to pull off. We’re lucky as it seems HA itself has managed to get to that point with Nabu Casa funding a couple dedicated dev’s.
As the users of Home Assistant app for IOS we need to brace ourselves for it going away; or we figure out a way to get more resources on this project to help Robbie. Sitting back and thinking it will solve itself is not going end well for anyone…
The post I saw he was going to be concentrating on HA full time and was looking for Patreon support.
In any case I find this kind of speculation unhelpful at best.
There is a point here, the iOS app (beta/regular) given the increase in users is a heavy cross to bare for a single person (and a bottleneck).
Hope he gets his computer sorted, and this is still fun for him and not becoming a burden.
I made some comments above about highlighting known issues within HA better which will reduce or at least consolidate the amount of noise/questions, there were some good responses, I imagine this could help save dev overload.
This. It’s not hard to at least quickly flick to the breaking changes section of the release notes, or to check here before smashing the update button.
This may be a dumb question, but is this possible on HassOS running Hassio? I have the ssh addon, but it doesn’t have root access. I can’t see the src folder nor is docker an available command.
see posts above. Only way with HassOS is to use the Portainer addon. (It might also work in debug mode port 22222 but I have not tried it)
Gah - I scrolled right past it - It must be too late in the evening for me. I’ll try that out. Thank you and thanks for all your efforts here!
Hi
I am trying to do the fix, I have installed portainer and it says that there are 12 containers but I cannot find the home assistant containers, can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong
I had this and it’s a simple fix. In Portainer click on settings and scroll to the bottom to the hidden containers section. If you have the Homeassistant container hidden in there then click the remove button and it should then appear in the Container section.
I think you may have misunderstood my statement. I read through the release notes but it didn’t say anything about the mobile app having issues. I upgraded after reading the release notes expecting everything to keep working. I don’t know what the answer is, but it would be good to have app issues included in the release notes somehow. Even taking into account that this is the beta version of the iOS app.
that worked But i can’t edit anything nothing is happening when I am typing
When using vi you need to press the letter “i” to insert then once you have changed what is required press Esc on your keyboard then type :wq (colon and letters wq) to quit. Restart HA and you should be sorted.
Hi
I know of issue with 0.100X and I have gone back to 0.993 for that reason. But I have big problems with both notification and tracking. On my wifes iphone 11 the notification works but on mine it do not. I have several device_tracker.xxxx_1 and _2 and so on. So I deleted all but _2 and renamed it to the right name. Then I worked for a short while.
Notifications don´t work at all for me. I made de change from ios to mobile_app because I thougt app 2.0 was almost ready for sable realise.
I don´t mean this as being angry or mad, I just want to know how to fix so I can use the app and get both tracking and notifications to work. Thanks
Thank you so mutch I got my app back
