2023.12: Welcome home!

This is how your thermostat shows things. Mine on the other hand:

Read carefully. I said IF there is no intention. I didn’t say BECAUSE there is no intention.

Furthermore I will try to keep it on the front burner until it’s resolved satisfactory

You already know there is an intention to look at this. There is no “if”. We heard you the first time. There is no reason to keep spamming this topic with your complaints.

Hence we have to camps and only one option. Would it not be nice to have both options.

( as might noticed by now I really liked to old classic version of the thermostat )

True. I will stop but I noticed that in the latest release there was no change so I brought it back to the attention!

Simple Thermostat shows the set point as the bigger of the two

Thermostat card shows the target only when clicked on (although it is around the edge)

Better Thermostat is configurable to show actual or target.

Dark Thermostat shows actual

and mini climate card gives equal prominence

So there is no right answer, but there is plenty of choice

I have searched for the Better Thermostat but I couldn’t find it. Where is it, in HACs or somewhere in GITHUB? I like that one!

It is in HACS on my system, but I have a number of extra repos added in.

Wait up, the repo says HACS Default.

One more thing, I just installed it, and it in fact shows target in the bigger number.

Indeed, proportions are also important. So as i suggested, the best would be to make it configurable

Thanks. I found it. Target is central but is it configurable?

Yeah my mistake, corrected above.

It is primarily designed to be a companion to the better thermostat integration. Dunno if that will help.

Trying the better thermostat in HACS and discovered swapping the target and actually temperature IS configurable.

^ This.

Even my hardware thermostat has an option of choice for this. And I still wonder where were all the complains against the old way, which was the other ways round.

For me it is not that important about the size or order. I would be used to it at some point of time.

BUT: If you have grids or small sizes of the new card, it only shows one temperature and this is now only the target. And at least this is the problem for me at the moment.

There weren’t any. A new design was presented to a group of users who had no issue with it, so it was released.

The more-info pop-up for the thermostat was released last month and was very well received. No one complained then either. A lot wanted to know how they could add it to their dashboards.

I found the integration already and I had it installed but I couldn’t find the card. I now have both so I can start testing. Again Thanks!

Indeed the “Better Thermostat UI Card” is vey similar to the new design and permits to switch target and actual temperature.
Great !!

I’m going to convert everything to this lovelace card.

Great and if the title could be inside the circle it would make it even more compact for mobile use!

I tested it a bit and it has some nice options and flexibility. I will study all the attributes I have seen and create some test models. If these type of options would have been available in the HA standard one it would have saved a truck load of discussions

Nick. How did you get the humidity in the middle of the better thermostat ?

Overnight i got an update of Unifi OS to 3.2.7 and that broke the unifiy protect integration under HA 12.1 and 12.2 somehow under 12.0 it still works.

Anybody else with this problem.

I have no skin in the game with respect to the thermostat card, although I do prefer the actual temperature to be more prominent.

I will say, however, that proper user interface design would allow one to easily distinguish between the two which isn’t the case in virtually any design I’ve seen. I’m not sure about how to accomplish this exactly, but perhaps if the set temp is smaller it can also have a “knob” icon or similar next to it? That’s actually not a suggestion, it’s to visualize the concept of distinguishing actual vs set.
