Only in the US.

”home assistant cloud”, something big happening this weekend?

Doesn’t seem to allow registration yet. I’m surprised. I thought that lambda instances were needed for smart home skills.

Exciting!! Can’t wait to try this out!

Nothing about “cloud” or Alexa Smart Home in 0.58 release notes, looking forward to see what this actually is.

actually there is something : https://github.com/home-assistant/home-assistant/pull/10647
https://home-assistant.io/components/cloud/

would love to know whats about to come out

bonus :
https://github.com/home-assistant/home-assistant/blob/master/homeassistant/components/cloud/init.py

MESSAGE_EXPIRATION = “”"
It looks like your Home Assistant Cloud subscription has expired. Please check
your account page to continue using the service.

This in the const.py section is frightening… Please don’t make this a paid service HA devs…

something else :
https://[yourhomeassistantip]/config/cloud/

Thank you for supporting Home Assistant. It’s because of people like you that we are able to run this project and make a great home automation experience for everyone. Thank you!

Create Account : It is free and allows easy integration with voice assistants.

Nice, hope an announcement will come from the devs soon, especially since it´s already “public” here

Unlikely that we’ll see it before 0.59 or 0.60, looks like the github page for it currently doesn’t even include the aws server they’ll be using for the cloud component.

There’s a whole load of links to pull requests directly related to the smart home skill in the release notes, check through these if you want some more info…

There’s even a link to a non functioning component page.

Was in a quandary which way to go on the personal assistant front with the black Friday sales on, stick with Alexa or jump ship to Google Home, being a Google fanboy and then now having a sensibly priced product were the main considerations, but went with Alexa as several very recent changes were more appropriate to my use. Now looks like I definitely made the right choice

This is the one major I thing I missed moving from openhab. I don’t want to open HA up to the Internet and I really want to use Alexa home skills to control things. Fingers crossed.

So you can locally visit /config/cloud if you add “cloud:” to your configuration.yaml.

This is how you register but the registration service is missing some other details I’m guessing aren’t part of the source yet.

Just wait till it’s launched, I’m sure all will become clear. Certainly looks like it’s going to be friendlier than the Google Home equivalent

Just hope it gets added to the UK skills for release  @balloob

The problem is for Alexa to work it must have parts hosted in the cloud. It’s how she was built… But since the HA guys are quite vocal over privacy issues I suspect it will be as least invasive as possible.

Really hope this gets enabled for the UK too. Maybe then we can stop messing about with emulated hue and get direct colour control of third party rgb bulbs!

Don’t forget the Dutch users (so PLEASE not geoblocking!!)

Agreed, no geoblocking please, Australia here.
