Oh. They make two versions of these it seems, and I’ve accidentally bought the wifi version. https://www.ceilingfansdirect.com.au/ is being really good about it all and letting me do a return for the correct version. So that’s nice.
Adam I think the Arlec security light needs the module replaced to be flashable. Think I saw that info on a webpage last week, but can’t find it now…
Does anyone know of any decent Z-Wave or Zigbee Powerboards? I cannot find any bar for one Zigbee Powerboard on Kogan which looks dodgy…
I’ve flashed about half a dozen of these. First few were tedious and I did brick one, but once you know what you’re doing it’s simple as.
Would these not work with the new Local Tuya API?
Unsure, have not tried. That was not around when I was doing it. The way they integrate when using Tasmota is through MQTT.
Has anyone put together a localtuya yaml file for this tower fan?
https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-117cm-grid-connect-smart-aurora-digital-tower-fan_p0274798
It’s also sold as a generic TF1460 which is also branded as Sterling from Aldi but it looks to be the same unit.
I have it running in HA to turn the fan on and get temp from the unit.
I hadn’t tried to flash the unit, just localtuya.

Does anyone know of a twin (or powerboard) that has power monitoring that can be tasmotaised?
I would like to have something like: second outlet switch on when power is drawn on the first outlet and I figured I could potentially do this with tasmota rules.
I had originally planned to do this with two units, but self-contained would be a neater solution.
Glen.
I’ve never seen a power board that has power monitoring per outlet.
I use Kogan power boards, converted to ESPHome long time ago, and while you can switch each outlet there is only a single power monitoring sensor built in.
That might still work, as I can figure out the draw of the device on the first outlet and work around that.
I have some esp8266/nodeMCU units that are running with BME280 sensors for temp/humidity running ESPhome and they seem quite stable – thanks for the pointer!
@glenp42
Have a look at this local tuya addon. You don’t need the yaml to configure it.
The fan component should manage most of the features of that fan. You can just add the temperature sensor as a separate sensor.
Hey all! I’m planning to order OpenSprinkler & OpenGarage (Products | OpenSprinkler) and looks like the only option is to get it from the US.
Since the shipping costs quite a bit, I thought I’d ask here if someone wants anything from there & I’d order it in bulk & re-ship locally.
Message me if interested! I’ll be placing the order on Sunday or Monday. Thanks!
Nice !
I’ve had OpenSprinkler for around 4 years now and it hasn’t missed a beat.
Unfortunately I just ordered mine, that shipping was a killer.
Hi all,
Just wanted to ask what’s the best in ceiling or in wl smart switches available now?
I did use Nue in ceiling switch with zigbee and they work ok. But wanting to find out what else is available?
I was reading about Shelly. But heard they make heaps of whine noises and stuff is this true???
1 and 1PM
Anyone want to comment on noises etc when off or on?
Because I prefer to use something that I can reset without climbing to the roof again. Tasmota seems to be able to do this.
Can LED downlights be dimmable???
Thanks.
Looking at sonoff seems not certified still.
Hi Tim,
Yeah I’m using localtuya, and I really wanted to be able to use the WebUI and initally went that path, but it really was easier for me to just generate a yaml config and restart HA
Glen.
PS: Localtuya is magnificent.
I have Brilliant fan controllers (that fit in the fan shroud that goes around the hanger to the ceiling) that are flashed with Tasmota and they are quiet.
As long as you buy dimmable ones, which most are these days.
I just got the following installed in a bathroom:
- 2x Roystar 9w CCT LED Downlights in the ceiling
- Shelly Dimmer 2 connected to a momentary switch and installed behind a standard wall plate.
After calibration (fully automated in Shelly Dimmer) and setting the mode to “Trailing edge” the lights dim perfectly fine and there is no noise (“Leading edge” mode did produce a noise). In “One button mode” you can turn the lights on/off and dim them by holding the button.
I did have some white only LIFX that made this annoying whine when not 100% or off. So they were pretty useless. Refunded those.
In terms of Shelly 1 making noise how much noise is it??? Would the noise come through from the ceiling? Because of the whine then I probably can’t get them. Because they would annoy me a lot. Do all Shelly make noises??
You said trailing edge was ok. This is the mode for LED right?
Why do leading edge make noises then.
