Thank you, I learned something today!

Iā€™ve been trawling through these 4319+ posts searching for Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM) Aus approved ZigBee products and wanted to summarise what Iā€™ve found thus far along with internet findings.

Currently you need to have something that has Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM) which looks like the following;

RCM-300x193

This needs to be on the product to demonstrate compliance. You can search https://www.eess.gov.au/ to find if equipment or suppliers are certified.

For my wants, iā€™m after zigbee devices. From what iā€™ve read Zigbee is superior to Wifi for a variety of reasons, congestion, mesh network, lack of the need for internet etc.

As it stands there arenā€™t that many products on the market that are ZigBee and RCM compliant. Thus far Iā€™ve found;

It does appear that there may be others, although I was unable to find equipment certification on the EESS website, being;

  • Oz Smart Things, Oz Smart Zigbee Relay Switch (on sale @ $59.99) found at: Oz Smart Things Website while the product manual has the RCM logo but no pictures of the product with the RCM logo [Iā€™m awaiting an email response regarding compliance])

  • SmartHome Direct Zigbee Relay (@ $59.99) found at: Smart Home Direct Website again no pictures of the product with the RCM logo [Iā€™m awaiting an email response regarding compliance]) it does state AUS/NZ compliant but no doubt thatā€™s just a throw away

Itā€™s looking like the Clipsals may be the best especially if you have architrave light switches. Although as discussed prior at a heft cost for especially when youā€™ll also have to splash out for a faceplate and a momentary push button mechanism so add another roughly $20.

Hurts the hip pocket when you see the roughly $10 zigbee switches on Aliexpressā€¦

I think most people are just happy that the device has been certified, even if someone hasnā€™t bothered to get a box of stickers and stuck them on.

While Iā€™ve decided to go ahead with clipsal wiser, I didnā€™t realise until recently that these were an option: Switches Archives | IkuĆ¼

I havenā€™t done much research as I want the physical push button, hard wired 3-way switching, dimmer control and flexibility of mechs, so it rules these out. They do seem a good middle ground between clipsal pricing and no-name brands though.

Thereā€™s also the Legrand/HPM smart stuff. The switch modules look to be a lot larger than the Clipsal kit, you can only fit 3 switches or dimmers to a wall plate.

Iā€™ve ordered one of the HPM Excel Life With Netatmo switches for my electrician to install when he comes here in a week or so. I also have a Clipsal Wiser switch for him to install in another spot.

Great point alexeiw123! Youā€™re right those touch switch panels are a suitable alternative.

Unfortunately, my main problem is that I have multiple architrave switches which substantially reduces the options.

Oz Smart Things just got back to me they have got draft certification for their zigbee switches.

In relation to Ikuu. What is a wishlist? Why no pricing?
Pat

Iā€™d say youā€™ll need to talk to a wholesaler that supplies them

these sites have some pricing of the Mercator Ikuu zigbee gear
https://www.lightingillusions.com.au/shop/zigbee?type=category&menu=smart

https://www.lightingsuperstore.com.au/collections/mercator-ikuu

They have a zigbee mech too

I have the mercator stuff installed in my house.

The individual mechs are the only ones that are a physical button, the others are just touch sensitive concave surfaces.
The individual mechs are big enough you can only fit 3 on a wall plate, not 4.
The individual mechs have a small white on indicator LED and the others have a whole button faint blue glow when on. Itā€™s not bright enough IMO

Zigbee part of it works fine. I think iā€™ll end up going to wiser for future upgrades as the physical buttons are preferred. Thankfully I have automated around most switch interaction so far.

Hereā€™s some real world views of the LED indicators. Top switch only in both.

Cheers SgtBatten. Nice to see them in action, per say.

Looking through the EEAA register i canā€™t seem to find the RCM logo for the Mercator brand youā€™ve linked too or for that matter now canā€™t seem to find that on the Clipsal Iconic Wiser range too as approved. I swear i must be going loopy as I thought i found it last night.

Anyone have a picture/link to the Certificate number for the Clipsal Iconic Wiser product zigbee product?

Dunno how to find a cert for you but hereā€™s the logo on the back of one of my spares.

Another clipsal wiser question for those that have used them.
Iā€™m scoping up my order and have a need for a 4 gang plate with two dimmer mechs, unclear if it can be fit.

The dimmer mechs say ā€œMutli-gang plate capacity: Max 3 primary mechs per plateā€

Iā€™m hoping to be able to fit two dimmer mechs and two switches in to one 4 gang plate.

Anyone able to confirm?

I havenā€™t tried myself but from my previous research I would say you wonā€™t be able to fit them.

The three limit is because of the overhang on each side and when in a line they fit but on a 4 gang you wonā€™t get the space.

This short clipsal video shows a bit more detail.

Happy to be proven wrong by someone who know more.

Anyone got any recommendations for DIN rail energy monitoring that is approved for AUS (obviously)?

these are a candidate:
https://agmelectrical.com.au/kilowatt-hour-meters/single-phase-30-amp-digital-kilowatt-hour-meter.html

but would prefer if they had zigbee or wifi built in (maybe?)

It would be easy enough to interface a pulse output device in to ESPhome, I guess, but it would be nice to have the other information too - instantaneous current/power, energy, voltage, power factor?

apologies if this has been done to death.

Exactly the same problem as the mercator individual mechs by the sound of it. Can fit 3 in a line on a 3 gang but not side by side and on top with a 4 gang.

Have you seen the Shelly Pro series?
#45: First look at the new Shelly Pro 4PM ā€“ SuperHouse Automation.

at least the Pro 4PM has certification.

oh thatā€™s interesting. Thanks. Iā€™ll look into it.

Oh very helpful.

I took a a drive to the wholesaler to figure it out. It looks like it wonā€™t work for a 4 gang, but you could use a 6 gang with 2 blanks, which would look terrible.

Find something else to automate and put something in the other 2.
