Fair enough, I haven’t tried those. I don’t think I would though because i think they’re ugly! Taste is subjective though…
I’m looking at updating all my light switches and powerpoints to smart ones. I’ve trialed a couple of different options and am leaning towards Oz Smart Things Zigbee switches and powerpoints. Has anyone had any experience with them, good or bad?
Also has anyone tried using the Zigbee light switches with a Shelly dimmer behind? I’ve got a couple of rooms with seperate light circuits and my wife doesn’t like the look of multiple dimming wall plates on the wall.
Thanks
I’ve had a couple installed for almost a year without issues. The Sparky who installed them was concerned about the isolation around the screw terminals so wrapped the block in electrical tape.
My only gripe is that they don’t work as a repeater.
DETA 6920HA double GPO, dual USB and Energy Monitoring has been successfully flashed with OpenBeken and a Cloudcutter profile created. I just have to do the teardown and calibrate/setup the energy monitoring side of things.
I have one of the Nue zigbee GPOs and it’s um… only just ok.
If you scroll up and see the DETA switch mech I flashed OpenBeken on, it can be programmed to do multipress via scripting. I intend to use it and a Node-Red automation to control various smart lights and dimming stages via 1/2/3 press and long hold function.
That seems a bit of an oversight… Have they been stable for you though?
Anyone have any good feedback for similar ZigBee switches that are available in Australia?
I have had multiple Nue PowerPoints for 3+ years and the only issue I have had was the adhesive tape holding the front plate on can fail which was an easy fix. I also had a 2 gang light switch which work fine until I change my lighting and didn’t need anymore.
Ok, code base has been updated testing using the CSE7766 driver for energy monitoring. The chip on the DETA GPO is a HLW8032 which is similar. Readings seem correct but I need a kill-a-watt or something to confirm.
my neighbor just cut down their old tree that has been providing nice shade from the morning sun. Im looking to install an outdoor motorised roll up blinds. have you got any hardware recommendations?
red line indicates current roll up shades that is old and tired (almost broken) that I intend to replace, preferably with smart, zigbee or wifi.
No switch boxes in my place, but it fit in the wall cavity just fine. Overall I have been really impressed with the ozsmarthings zigbee dimmer. It also seems to support a decent amount of the zigbee spec (including turn on brightness if you want to change the default brightness when you hit the wall switch). The only downsides I see are:
- Installation is a little more time consuming / messier than using an all in one mech.
- You have to find and buy a push button mech you like.
I have Smartwings indoor blinds and can highly recommend them, so I would assume their outdoor are also good. I have the ZigBee model and they paired to zigbee2mqtt fine, just had to switch two directions around which was a bit fiddly (in z2m).
If you’re not in a rush they do have decent discounts occasionally (bfcm was 15%) or there’s some 5% codes kicking around
Thank you for the recommendations, i’ll take a look.
is there a push-button mech you recommend that is reliable?
I just purchase two mercator ikuu doublle switch. both a wifi, and zigbee model to get a feel of there quality and ease to integrate into HA. I just purchase a HA Skyconnect as a Zigbee cordinator, so this would have been my first zigbee device. I installed without a problem.
The wifi model worked fine, connected with the Tuya Smart app. I have not tried to use Tuya Local.
But the zigbee model does not have a neutral wire. This mean it needs a minimum load of about 12W, or you need to add a cap to the load. I did managed to connect it to HA, (using a 100W load).
This limitation was not mentioned on the website I purchased this device. I going to see it I can send it back.
Wow, I’ve been keeping an eye on the ikuu range for a while now to see if it works with HA, but haven’t seen anything about a minimum load anywhere! I was thinking of getting some to replace our dumb switches, as we want something zigbee and able to still be controllable manually, but wasn’t 100% sure it would work in HA. Would you mind letting us know what Mercator says about it, as I don’t know if I’d want to get them if there’s no way around it!
What model was that? And is there any reason not to fit a cap?
The zigbee model is SSW02G.
I guess there nothing wrong with using a cap (SXC01 in the manual), but I just don’t like the idea.
You don’t know if you need it until the load is installed. What’s the cap doing…, making the power factor bad, to increase the current. Also the zigbee circuit is living on a low leakage current through the load so it works when the load is turned off.
If I had old wiring that did not have a neutral at the switch junction then I might consider it, but not if I don’t have too.
Aside, Tuya Local worked fine with the wifi mode.
The switch did work with HA. but I don’t want one based on a no-neutral design. The site I bought it from did not have data sheets.Smart Zigbee 2 Gang Wall Switch White by Lighting Superstore. I now see it over priced compared to Mercator Ikuu SSW02G | Smart Double Switch | Zigbee which does have a data sheet, that mentions the no neutral.
looking at other devices, the MERCATOR IKUU SSWM Mercator Ikuu SSWM | Smart Single Switch Mechanism | Zigbee is also no neutral but only has a 5W minimum.
Well don’t forget if it had a neutral it would still be using power continuously.
Not a power factor expert.
Can anyone recommend a zigbee 4 gang light switch that also works as a repeater?
I’ve come to realise that just because a switch has a neutral, it does not mean it also functions as a repeater…
