Australia - Electrically Certified Hardware

Use ESPhome with it’s native HA API…

Calibrate the voltage first using a multimeter connected to the same outlet that the plug is connected to and adjust the calibration value in the device until the reading you get from the plug is the same as the multimeter. Then use a completely resistive load (ie: halogen globe) of known wattage plugged into the Kogan plug and adjust the current value until the wattage reading is correct. (you could measure the current and do it that way but this requires being more invasive and should not be done by someone who is not an electrician)

Not if you have one of these Dave:

Also for removing the downlight diffuser would a suction cup like the ones used for removing tablet displays help?

The funny thing about that power meter is that it likely wont be Aus certified (I didn’t look)…given the thread name  But yes, that would do the job.

Nope it most definitely is not approved.

do you know if there is a guide somewhere to convert from tasmota to esphome? i havent tried esphome yet. if its easy enough to switch over ill give it a go

If you have the Tasmota template you can work out the GPIO assignment. (docs)

but since you are using Kogan plugs, this has been done plenty of time before. Are they the new (with USB ports) or old style (no USB) Kogan plugs? Use appropriate link for the config and you are sorted.

esphome.io has easy getting started pages, but there are (somewhat unusually) some good youtube videos. There is also a whole subforum on esphome.

Flashing the Portisch Firmware onto the Sonoff RF Bridge is on a Tasmota page.

I used one of these to calibrate mine: https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-energy-cost-electrical-meter_p4410270

And loosely followed Frenck’s guide: https://frenck.dev/calibrating-an-esphome-flashed-power-plug/

Does this count towards certification in NZ?

I am not an electrician, and although I am a lawyer, trans tasman and international approvals are not my specialty

However my understanding is that we have mutual recognition of standards in this area, and certified in AU is certified in NZ and vice versa.

The mask is lifted!

Lol. And here I am moving from ESPHome to Tasmota for my lights and power monitoring. With HA auto discovery implemented it just appears ready to go with all sensors. If you want the sensors to update frequently don’t forget to set the teleperiod. I have mine at 10 (seconds).

Thanks, that’s does look complicated.

What downlight is this?

I am needing to buy some more, wanting the deta or mirabella and normally would have purchased by now but seeing alot on tuya-convert not working lately turns me off, i wonder if they will fix it

FYI all the Deta’s I’ve tried have flashed OTA.

This popped up in my emails this morning. Likely another Tuya-Convert candidate…

I saw this a few days ago - could also be a good candidate !

The Kogan spoken about on https://www.facebook.com/groups/smarthomeoz/
eg:
Sebastian Silverwood
“Just an FYI, I’ve been unable to find a way to control these when flashed. Uses TuyaMCU, not just base ESP8622. Have been able to read the door orientation sensor as well as battery level on door orientation sensor, but can’t for the life of me find the relay command.”

It looks like a re-badged Zemismart unit. Would be much quicker shipping than AliExpress :grinning:
