[Custom Component] Tapo: Cameras Control

Siren specifically is not 2 way sync on all the cameras, only some. It is currently unknown how to get status for alarm on all the cameras.

There is a PR in works - Add #558, #505: Feature/ Hub Siren and C420 cameras fixes by marcosngomezi · Pull Request #559 · JurajNyiri/HomeAssistant-Tapo-Control · GitHub which might help some cameras.

You can maybe set up a firewall-rule, in your Router, if there aint a feature to direct block a specific IP

I’ve created a firewall rule to block all outbound services from the IP address of a single camera.

My router seems to have accepted that, but I can still see the camera feed in the Tapo app. Is the Tapo app showing my local connection because I’m home and connected to the same network, or should I not see the camera at all in the Tapo app if internet connection is blocked?

Is there any way to confirm the camera has no access to the internet?

IF you have your Phone on your WIFI, yes then you can see cam-feed, as it works locally.

Turn off WIFI on your phone, so you use mobile-network(3-5G) , Cam should show as offline in your Tapo phone App

Okay, partial success blocking internet access to cameras. The SkyQ firewall settings are weird, but I have managed block all the indoor cameras :+1:

Well?

It’s July 1!

Is it working?

Can I update now and profit?

 I will give them around a week more and then check in.

Maybe they have “Summer Holiday” in EU-Dep., give them until August

Hello,
i have 3 Tapo cameras (C210) and i’m noticing (honestly, it’s been a while…) that when showing still images in lovelace they commonly are broken. broken = the image is correctly rendered in the highest section but then the lower section is rendered using the last “line” of the image, giving something like this

image

is this something common? i have no sigh of this in logs, so everything seems ok.
If i open the stream, image is correct. This seems to impact only hd stream and not sd stream, so i was wondering if there is a timeout somewhere in loading images…
All cameras are on full wifi coverage
Last but not least: in the Tapo app images saved are correctly rendered.
Thanks

Integration passes the rtsp stream to HA which generates the image. Check if it happens with the official integrations as well, it most probably will. Either a network, HA resources, or camera being overloaded with too many concurrent streams issue.

is it by chance passing through ffmpeg for frame generation?
(just because i also have ffmpeg problems with foscams’ rtsp streams)

Same for me i succesfully added C211 - firmware 1.3.7 - with success today. :+1:

@JurajNyiri In the github it says we should block internet access to the camera, but i have noticed that when I block internet access my camera (TC70) starts rebooting. Any work around?

PS: any news about the new API from Tapo?

I think i can confirm this! When i bought the last Tapo Camera (C100) i allowed the free trial period of the cloud option, and everything worked until i put de SD card on.

Then, the stream became unavaible and i thought it was because of the new firmware.
But no. I cancelled the Cloud option and now i have the 2 options ok - Recording to SD card and Streaming (in HD).

And this can be explained by the “only 2 channels” available! Good Call!

Does anyone know if the C402 Tapo Cameras work with HA? I’ve been having problems getting mine to even been seen by my HA setup. Tried through HCAS and through the normal means and in both cases it errors out. It is adding a port in during the attempted connection setup even though I’m just putting in the IP. Having it try to discover doesn’t work. I picked up one of these cameras to test out and see if they would be worth going with over some others but so far no good.

Sorry but above “description” doesn’t make much sense, Please provide a detailed description( procedure), and logfiles etc. ( i.e screen-shots of where thing goes wrong/bad )

Also read below , where you get tips upon howto proceed

PS: Have to tried the C402 RTSP-Stream in the “Generic Camera” Integration ?

I noticed there was a HACs update today for tapo camera control. Does anyone know if it fixed the issue of current camera firmware not properly allowing the integration to be added?

No, unfortunately it was not. It was an update to the documentaion of the current workarounds. HomeAssistant-Tapo-Control/add_camera_with_new_firmware.md at 0433ab6a25b69f712452384f6fb54f8aae93933a · JurajNyiri/HomeAssistant-Tapo-Control · GitHub

Oops, oh that update (see next post).

Each update has information on what it changes. I suggest reading through it, sometimes it contains breaking changes.

I used the procedure to block internet connectivity with MAC address filtering, re-added the camera and the integration works like a charm. I can’t believe how many entities are exposed and how much control there is. Great work.
